Shakira is nodding to an appropriately themed 2015 Rihanna classic after her acquittal in a tax fraud case by Spain’s High Court.
In an Instagram update shared on Monday (May 18), the same day news broke that she was poised to receive the equivalent of tens of millions of dollars reimbursed to her by the government, the four-time Grammy winner soundtracked an assortment of photos credited to Nicolas Gerardin with RiRi’s “ b**chs Better Have My Money.”
While Shakira did not elaborate further, and, in fact, did not even bother to include a caption, her song choice was quickly interpreted by fans as a celebration, of sorts, for her recent court victory.
In a recent statement, Shakira’s legal team, including José Luis Prada, explained that the ruling “completely annuals the tax assessments and penalties related to the 2011 fiscal year,” adding that this development “represents a milestone in a complex proceeding that required years of work, technical rigor, and a robust legal defense.”
Shakira herself, meanwhile, was previously quoted as responding to the ruling by reaffirming that there was “never any fraud.”
Next for the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran artist is a run of North American tour dates, kicking off with back-to-back stops at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome in June and wrapping in late July at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. As Shakira teased to fans earlier this month, her latest tour is slated to be “full of surprises.”
