The French Riviera has a way of demanding the very best from everyone who walks its famous carpet, and Cannes 2026 answered that demand with remarkable conviction. This year felt less like a fashion parade and more like a series of genuine artistic statements, archival couture revived with new meaning, Indian craftsmanship finding its loudest global moment yet, and menswear finally remembering that restraint can be just as powerful as spectacle. Every celebrity who stepped onto that carpet this year understood the assignment, and some of them rewrote it entirely. Whether it was molten gold sequins closing the ceremony or a gown quietly nodding to a wedding, here are twelve looks that got it completely right.

In This Article

1. Eva Longoria in Golden Gown

She closed Cannes the way it deserved to be closed, in a golden strapless gown dripping in sequins with an Art Deco geometric starburst fanning dramatically from the waist. A hip-high slit, an elegant train pooling behind her, a diamond choker, a matching bracelet, and strappy silver platform heels completed the look. Centre-parted hair falling in smooth waves finished what was arguably the most statuesque closing ceremony appearance of the entire festival.

She arrived in an all-white power suit that referenced her most iconic screen appearances, and the entire carpet felt it. The cinched waist, exaggerated shoulders, and vertical lace-trim detailing were sharp and deliberate, while a sustainable feathered boa and cat-ear shawl shifted the tailoring away from classic territory and into something altogether more cinematic and gloriously unexpected. White, as her stylist said, has always been one of her most powerful colours.

3. Aditi Rao Hydari in Tony Ward Couture

Lime green against the blue of the French Riviera could go wrong very quickly, and in her hands it went spectacularly right. The pleated Tony Ward Couture draping wrapped around her as silk caught in a sea breeze, with a flowing cape adding movement without overwhelming the silhouette. She kept styling clean and delicate, allowing the dress to breathe entirely on its own. The result felt like a modern painting touched by sunlight.

4. Alia Bhatt in Tarun Tahiliani

Victorian romance meeting Indian craftsmanship in the most cinematic way possible. The corseted couture saree gown featured chintz-inspired florals, a deep burgundy and ivory palette, an off-shoulder structure, and a column skirt patterned with botanical motifs. A Sunita Shekhawat bow necklace set with 26.43 carats of diamonds added another period-inflected layer to a look that balanced heritage and high fashion with complete effortlessness.

5. Alexandra Leclerc in Paolo Sebastian

The Paolo Sebastian couture gown looked like it had been sculpted from crushed pearls and seafoam. The strapless silhouette featured a nude tulle bustier and tiers of gold scalloped satin laden with gold netting, rhinestones, and floral appliqué that shimmered like ripples across water with every movement. A diamond tennis necklace and drop earrings balanced softness with structure beautifully. Romantic without becoming sugary, glamorous without trying too hard, and a subtle nod to her February wedding day.

6. Bella Hadid in Prada

A grey double satin dress with a draped strapless neckline embellished with crystal embroidery, paired with a matching double satin cape with bomber sleeves and white leather pumps. Every element felt considered and entirely deliberate, which is what Prada dressing at its best always achieves. The crystal embroidery added just enough drama to the restrained palette, and the bomber cape brought a contemporary edge to what could have been a straightforwardly elegant look.

7. Simone Ashley in Vintage Alexander McQueen

She floated down the Cannes carpet looking like the diamond of the season, and the vintage choice made the moment feel even more considered. The scarlet red Alexander McQueen gown from the 2005 collection featured dramatically pleated tiered construction that moved like something alive with every step she took. A Chaumet Joséphine Soir de Fête diamond necklace and matching drop earrings completed the look with the kind of jewellery that earns its own applause. Vintage couture on a Cannes red carpet is always a statement, and on her fourth trip to the festival, Simone Ashley made it look entirely effortless.

8. Jacqueline Fernandez in Richard Quinn

Old Hollywood glamour translated into Richard Quinn SS26 couture and delivered with complete conviction. The structured strapless ivory gown had a dramatic silhouette that immediately stood out, while black opera gloves created a refined contrast that lent the entire ensemble an unmistakable vintage mood. Jewellery by Mahesh Notandass, including a delicate pearl neckpiece, added richness without overpowering the couture design. Clean tailoring and quiet confidence did the rest.

9. Tara Sutaria in Vivienne Westwood

She arrived at the Women in Cinema gala looking like vintage glamour had been quietly reimagined for the French Riviera. The ivory Vivienne Westwood gown featured the label’s signature corsetry sculpting her frame beautifully, a soft draped cowl neckline adding romantic vintage warmth, and luxurious satin flowing into a sleek floor-length skirt. A dramatic matching stole draped around her arms elevated the entire silhouette into something genuinely cinematic. Diamond and emerald jewellery brought a luxurious colour contrast against the soft neutral palette, while a sleek centre-parted bun, subtle smoky eyes, and nude lips kept the beauty understated and entirely intentional.

10. Diana Penty in Amit Aggarwal

For Amit Aggarwal’s Cannes gala debut, Diana wore a sculptural one-shoulder red gown rooted in Ikat craft and elevated through glass bead detailing and signature pleated polymer textures. The silhouette was sharp, fluid, and almost cinematic against the Riviera backdrop. A bold neck choker, red-toned eye makeup, and glowing highlighter completed a look that felt like performance art wearing couture: bold, unapologetic, and deeply rooted in Indian craftsmanship.

11. Barbara Palvin in Miu Miu

A light blue voile gown with feathers that looked like it had been lifted directly from a dream about the French countryside and placed onto the Cannes carpet without alteration. The delicate fabric and soft feather detailing gave the look an ethereal, almost watercolour quality that felt entirely right for the Riviera light. Romantic, feminine, and refreshingly unforced in a way that made it stand out among more dramatically constructed looks throughout the festival.

12. Penélope Cruz in Archival Georges Chakra

She revived a 2012 Haute Couture Georges Chakra gown for the closing ceremony and made it feel like it was created specifically for this moment. The strapless design featured a white bodice covered in intricate black-and-white feather appliqués flowing into a voluminous black satin skirt with a dramatic train. Bold red lips, cascading Pasquale Bruni diamond earrings, and loose waves with new blonde highlights completed a look that belonged in Cannes film history.
