The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has once again made headlines after issuing a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh over his reported exit from Don 3. According to reports, the film body took action after producers alleged that the actor walked out close to the shooting schedule, leading to heavy financial losses.
But Ranveer is not the first celebrity to face action from FWICE. Over the years, several actors, singers, and artists have faced bans or non-cooperation directives from the organisation, mostly linked to controversies involving Pakistan collaborations or industry disputes.
One of the most talked-about FWICE controversies involved Diljit Dosanjh. The organisation reportedly issued a non-cooperation directive against him after he appeared alongside Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. FWICE had appealed to Indian artists not to collaborate with Pakistani performers following rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The body also reportedly asked producers of Border 2 to remove Diljit from the film. Later, after intervention from producer Bhushan Kumar, FWICE allowed him to complete the film’s shoot.
Back in 2019, singer Mika Singh faced a temporary FWICE ban after performing at a wedding event in Karachi, Pakistan. Reports stated that the wedding was linked to an associate of former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. The move sparked major backlash at the time. However, the ban did not last long. Mika later met FWICE officials, apologised, and clarified that his appearance at the event was “just a coincidence,” after which the organisation revoked the directive.
FWICE has repeatedly opposed collaborations with Pakistani artists during periods of political tension between the two countries. Following the 2016 Uri attacks and later incidents, the body announced a ban on Pakistani actors, singers, and technicians working in India. As a result, popular stars like Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, both of whom had gained popularity through Bollywood films, were unable to continue working in Indian productions.
The latest name to join the list is Ranveer Singh. FWICE recently issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor after producers of Don 3 reportedly claimed losses worth ₹45 crore following his alleged exit from the film shortly before shooting. FWICE claimed that Ranveer did not respond to multiple reminders asking him to appear before the organisation. The actor’s team later issued a statement saying he wished to handle the matter with “dignity” and professionalism.
FWICE represents thousands of workers and technicians in the Indian entertainment industry. A “non-cooperation directive” usually means members are advised not to work with a particular artist or production.
