Jennifer Lawrence seen in New York fifteen years after our first look at Katniss Everdeen

I’ve been waiting a couple of weeks for new Jennifer Lawrence photos and now we have some so I can talk about this anniversary.

Fifteen years ago, in March 2011, it was confirmed that Jennifer Lawrence had been cast as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movie adaptation(s). Two months later, in May 2011, she covered Entertainment Weekly in costume as Katniss – it was an exclusive first look at JLaw in the role that would make her one of the biggest movie stars of her generation, shortly after her first Oscar nomination for her performance in Winter’s Bone. And two years before she would actually win the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

Fifteen years. I know every day I’m always like… howwww… WTF time… and now here we are again. I just namechecked Twilight in my earlier post about Off-Campus because they’re shooting in Vancouver and it’s been even longer since Twilight but 15 years since JLaw became the definitive Katniss is crazy.

Jennifer has been pretty low-profile since the Golden Globes in January. I was wondering if we’d see her at the Met Gala, that didn’t happen. They’re still technically in production on Martin Scorsese’s What Happens at Night, co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio. What’s often not mentioned much in connection with this project is that Paul Thomas Anderson did a rewrite on the screenplay. So, obviously, with Marty and the cast and the writer, What Happens at Night will arrive with Expectations. It won’t, however, arrive until next year, and probably the latter half. And right now, her other projects are still in development, so once she’s done with it, she will likely have (another) good stretch of downtime – which is what we’ve seen from her since she got married. She worked non-stop for a whole decade, became a huge star, and then became more selective, less visible, more intentional.

A few of my friends are really into journaling – writing down their thoughts every night, nothing too elaborate, just a collection of ideas and random notes. I’ve always been too lazy because I write all day on this site and at The Squawk too. But David Sedaris is making me reconsider; a journal just about haircuts and hairstyles sounds fun. Apparently he writes about his haircuts. I say this from the hair and makeup chair, as our hairstylist Caitlin has spent the last two hours working on an elaborate design, maybe I should start doing this. (Celebitchy)

It’s Emmy season so the roundtables are starting up again. The Comedy Actress Roundtable features Lisa Kudrow, Quinta Brunson, Hannah Einbinder, Keke Palmer, Rachel Sennot, and Ashley Padilla. As a decades-long SNL watcher, I was particularly interested in this detail that Ashley shared. It might not be the first time she’s talked about it but it’ll never not be notable to me. Ashley is one of the breakout stars of this generation’s SNL cast… but unlike previous generations, she is not at Studio 8H until 4am through the week writing and rewriting. Ashley turns it in at a normal time and goes home to bed. I respect it, I admire it, because I’m at the stage of my life where 6pm dinners and home by 9pm is the f-cking best. But. If I were a writer at SNL, I feel like I would have too much FOMO if I went home at a civilised time. (THR)
