Northfield rallies in seventh to beat Rochester Royals – Post Bulletin

ROCHESTER — The Rochester Royals never led in Sunday’s amateur baseball game at Mayo Field, but they pushed it to three extra innings before falling.

The Northfield Knights pushed across two runs in the top of the 12th, then shut down the Royals in the bottom of the inning to pull out a 7-5 victory.

Northfield used two hits, a walk, a hit batter and an error in the 12th to break the tie.

The Knights led Rochester 4-2 after three innings, then added a run in the fifth to extend their lead.

Rochester battled back with one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to tie the score 5-5. The Royals scored twice with two outs in the seventh, stringing together a base hit, an error and three consecutive walks — the last two with the bases loaded.

Easton Fritcher led Rochester at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a run scored. Spencer Kober was 2-for-7 with a home run, three runs scored and an RBI; Michael Michalak was 2-for-4 with two RBIs; and Jack Ryan and Owen Kelly had two hits each.

The Royals used four pitchers; Roman Lynch suffered the loss, allowing two runs in one inning of work.

Rochester (2-1 overall) is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Miesville at Mayo Field.
