The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been accused of “complete hypocrisy” amid reports they could look to spend more time in the UK. Talk TV host Jeremy Kyle claimed the couple, who stepped down as senior royals and moved to the US in 2020, are acting “like politicians”.
Kyle said Prince Harry and Meghan had been critical of the Royal Family and the UK, but “suddenly” want their children Archie and Lilibet to be have prince and and princess titles.
He said: “It is complete hypocrisy by both of them. And again, a bit like politicians, do they not suss out that the British public, the silent majority, have an opinion of them that frankly isn’t going to change?”
Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter added “it’s not going to change” and said it appears they want “the best of both worlds”.
The couple faced intense media coverage while in the UK, before leaving for California where they have pursued new opportunities, including a Spotify podcast deal.
Speaking to US talk show host Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan said she found life so hard within the Royal Family that at times she “didn’t want to be alive any more”.
In the same interview, the couple told Winfrey about a conversation with an unnamed member of the Royal Family about “how dark” unborn Archie’s skin would be. Two years later, Harry denied calling the Royal Family racist, saying this word was used by the media not him.
Earlier this month, Harry, Meghan and their two children, reunited with King Charles at his Highgrove Residence. Reports suggest the Sussexes are considering a return to the UK, using their holiday home in Portugal as a staging post.
