BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — The 2026 Peabody Awards honored the most impactful and inspiring stories released in the media from the past year at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel last night. From “Andor,” a spy-thriller series set in the “Star Wars” universe to ABC News’ local coverage of the Los Angeles fires, the winners demonstrated a vast variety of storytelling.

The Walt Disney Company was celebrated with seven awards. The late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” took home its first-ever Peabody Award in the Entertainment category. After the hit talk show was suspended in September, host Jimmy Kimmel returned a week later and was determined to continue entertaining fans. “Making jokes about the president in America shouldn’t win you a prize,” the comedian said during his acceptance speech. “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” airs weeknights at 11:35|10:35c on ABC.

In a galaxy far, far away, the Disney+ series “Andor” Season 2 highlights the suppression of peaceful protests, undocumented immigrants’ fears and resisting the government. The show based in the “Star Wars” universe was recognized in the Entertainment category at the Peabody Awards. Watch “Andor” Season 1 and Season 2 streaming on Disney+.

Also a winner in the Entertainment category at the 86th annual Peabody Awards, FX’s “Dying for Sex.” Michelle Williams stars as a woman battling terminal cancer and decides to embark on a journey of sexual self-discovery. The miniseries is streaming now on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

In the News category, ABC News and KABC were honored for “Los Angeles Burning.” The frontline coverage from the 2025 wildfires in Southern California committed to delivering the news that matters, including timely updates as well as showcasing the perseverance of the L.A. community. “ABC World News Tonight” anchor David Muir told KABC, “We came, and we stayed, and we continue to ask those questions. I think we’re all fueled by the strength of the people here in Los Angeles.”

ESPN was honored for “Southpaw – The Life and Legacy of Jim Abbott” in the Documentaries category. The bio-doc explores the story of professional baseball player Jim Abbott, who was born without a right hand. Abbott pitched a no-hitter for the New York Yankees, and the documentary features archival footage and present interviews showcasing his impact on young athletes with disabilities. Stream “Southpaw – The Life and Legacy of Jim Abbott” on ESPN+ and Disney+.

The Peabody Awards recognized “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” on Disney+ for the Children’s/Youth category. Based on the comic books, the series features a 10-foot-tall red Tyrannosaurus named Devil Dinosaur and a young girl, 13-year-old Lunella from the Lower East Side, who uses her scientific skills to fight off villains.
