Martin Short may not have arrived at the 2025 Emmy Awards with Meryl Streep, but fans online believe the two stayed connected throughout the night.
During the Sunday broadcast from the Peacock Theater, a moment caught on video showed Selena Gomez, 33, whispering to fiancé Benny Blanco, 37, as she glanced at Short, 75, who was seated next to her and appeared to be smiling at his phone.
“Selena Gomez telling Benny, ‘Marty’s texting Meryl,’” read a fan caption on X.
Short was seated with his Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Gomez.
The Hulu series, which debuted its fifth season earlier this month, was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, up against Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Nobody Wants This, Shrinking, The Studio, and What We Do in the Shadows.
“In fact, the first day of shooting, which was rare because I’m not brand new, I was driving to work and I thought, ‘I’m nervous today. I’m working with Meryl Streep,’” he said.
When the cast gathered for the Season 4 premiere, Streep and Short were seen walking hand-in-hand at the party.
“Steve Martin in this video is the definition of the 3rd wheel,” one user joked on X. Another wrote, “I simply love living in a world where 75-year-old Meryl Streep is having a soft relationship launch with her 74-year-old boyfriend, Martin Short.”
Streep was previously married to Don Gummer for 45 years.
