Mika Abdalla has become a breakout star, captivating audiences with her role as Allie Hayes in Prime Video’s steamy hockey series Off Campus. With countless fan edits going viral on social media, curiosity about her—especially her love life—has reached new heights.
On Monday, June 1, Abdalla’s rep set the record straight on her relationship status, confirming to Us Weekly that she and her fiancé, former Disney Channel star Jake Short, have ended both their engagement and four-year relationship.
“Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together,” the rep said in a statement. “They continue to support each other and remain on friendly terms, and kindly ask for privacy and respect.”
So, what led to their split? Here’s everything we know so far about Abdalla and Short’s breakup.
Why did Mika Abdalla and Jake Short break up?
At the time of writing, the reason behind Abdalla and Short’s breakup remains unknown. The former couple has not publicly commented on their split, and it’s unlikely that they will address it themselves.
On June 2, sources told the celebrity-gossip Instagram account Deuxmoi that no major drama led to Abdalla and Short parting ways. “They were a really great couple,” one source noted, “it just didn’t work out and they remain on good terms.”
Insiders also claimed that Abdalla was the one who called off their engagement, and she allegedly did so right before Off Campus premiered on May 13, 2026. Short is reportedly taking the breakup hard, with one source describing him as “very saddened.”
Shortly after news of their split broke, an old video resurfaced and quickly went viral, showing Short referring to Abdalla as just “some b—” to him during a podcast appearance.
Abdalla appeared on a 2024 episode, titled “Couples Therapy, of Short’s podcast, The Sit and Chat podcast. During the episode, Short’s co-host, fellow Disney Channel alum Bradley Steven Perry, asked Short how he would describe Abdalla.
“I have two words,” Short said with a smile on his face. “I’d be like, ‘Some b—.’”
Perry and his now-wife, Natasha Bure Perry, were visibly taken aback, with Perry managing only an uncomfortable, “Oh my god.”
Abdalla then pointed to Bure Perry and addressed Short, saying, “So, she’s the best person [Perry] knows, the best person he’s ever met, and I’m some b—?”
Short then held up his hand for a high five, which Abdalla returned with an awkward smile. “We’re locked in over here,” the A.N.T. Farm actor added about himself and Abdalla.

Toward the end of the clip, Short clarified that he would actually describe Abdalla as his “eternity partner,” but fans were not too happy with his initial comment.
One fan on X reacted to the resurfaced clip, writing, “referring to your long term partner as “some b—” is so nasty i dont even care if it was a joke.”
“Jake really called his fiancée ‘some b—h’ on a podcast like it was nothing,” another X user commented. “The silence after that was LOUD. Mika, you dodged a bullet queen. Real men don’t talk about the woman they supposedly love like that. Proud of you for walking away. Your glow-up is incoming.”
A third person chimed in, “idk how long ago this was but if I were her, the engagement would have been called off as soon as we walked out of this room.”
Abdalla and Short met on the set of their Hulu comedy film Sex Appeal (2022) and quickly started dating. Three years later, they got engaged. “An awesome day yesterday celebrating the next chapter for my longtime client, Jake Short and his [fiancée], Mika Abdalla,” Short’s manager, Brian Medavoy, posted on Instagram at the time. “From set to real life – watching your journey has been a joy. Here’s to forever.”
