‘Music in the Wild’

Soprano Melanie Hanna Ezell and mezzo-soprano Satia Spencer perform for a “Music in the Wild” concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Cabe Theatre at Wildwood Park for the Arts, 20919 Denny Road, Little Rock. The two singers have been performing together in a variety of settings for more than 18 years.

The program will include “Summertime” and “My Man’s Gone Now” from George Gershwin’s “Porgy & Bess”; “Songbird” by Christine McVie; “La Habenera’ from “Carmen” by Georges Bizet; “O mio babbino caro” from Giacomo Puccini’s “Gianni Schicci”; the “Barcarolle” from “The Tales of Hoffman” by Jacques Offenbach; “Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix” from “Samson and Delilah” by Camille Saint-Saëns; “Waltz of My Heart” by Ivor Novello; “Sull’ aria…che soave zeffiretti” from “The Marriage of Figaro” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; “Down to the River to Pray” … the so-called “Flower Duet” from “Lakme” by Leo Delibes; “I Know You by Heart” by Eve Nelson “Vissi D’arte” from “Tosca” by Puccini; “Home” from “The Wiz” by Charlie Smalls; “Home Sweet Home” by Henry Bishop; “I’m Here” from “The Color Purple” by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, & Stephen Bray; and “For Good” from Stephen Schwartz’s “Wicked.”

Handel and Bach

The Trinitas Ensemble will present its first-ever concert with orchestra at 7 p.m. Friday, performing George Frederic Handel’s “Dixit Dominus” and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in g minor, BWV 235, at Trinity Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St., Little Rock. ‘Taming of the Shrew’

The Weekend Theater, 1001 W. Seventh St. at Chester Street, stages an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s comedy “The Taming of the Shrew,” 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday through June 21. Pink pup puppet

“Flurffy in the Land of Almost Awake,” in which Flurffy, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts’ canine puppet-in-residence, and his best friend, Emily, travel in dreams on the eve of the pup’s 10th birthday celebration to the magical Land of Almost Awake, “where clouds become stages, pajamas become costumes, and everyday moments transform into something extraordinary,” according to the museum website. It’s onstage in the Governor Winthrop Rockefeller Lecture Hall at the museum, 501 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and June 13-14, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday-June 12. ‘Christmas Chaos’

A small town’s annual Winter Christmas Gala turns upside down when a fierce winter storm sweeps in, with decorating mishaps, kitchen chaos, unexpected guests and power failures, as the Our Lady of Good Counsel’s Family Life Players stage their annual Jubilus Dinner Theater production, “Christmas Chaos,” 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and June 12-13 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Our Lady of Good Counsel gym, 1321 S. Van Buren St., Little Rock. Tickets — $30, $20 for senior citizens 65-plus, $10 for children 3-10 — include choice of ham or turkey and all the Christmas fixings (vegan/gluten free options available); for the Sunday matinee, $15, $10 and $5, including cookies, cupcakes and beverages. AMFA ‘Aftermaths’

“Aftermaths: Mat Collishaw,” featuring the latest film from British painter, photographer, sculptor and filmmaker Mat Collishaw, opens Saturday in the Fine Arts Club New Media Gallery at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, 501 E. Ninth St., Little Rock.

“Plunging us into the depths of the ocean, Collishaw’s grotesque sea creatures mutate, evolve and swim through a dystopian world to vividly illustrate the price of progress and humanity’s impact on the planet,” according to the museum website. “Collishaw reveals the consequences of unchecked human pollution from industrial waste, heavy metals and microplastics, combined with the ecological toll from the energy demands of artificial intelligence.”

The exhibition remains up through Nov. 15. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday-Friday (but closed as of 4:30 p.m. this Friday), noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Call (501) 372-4000.

Camp benefit

A collection of custom paintings featuring Joseph Pfeifer Camp, created by Art Group Gallery artists, goes on display at an art show, 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the gallery, in the Pleasant Ridge Shopping Center, 11525 Cantrell Road, Little Rock. All proceeds from the sale of these works will go directly to the camp, a free, residential summer camp near Ferndale, serving youngsters 9-14, particularly those who are disadvantaged or at-risk. Hot Springs gallery

Paintings by Laura Raborn and new pastel drawings of marinas by Dennis McCann are top of the list for the June exhibit at the Justus Fine Art Gallery, 827A Central Ave., Hot Springs, opening with a 5-9 p.m. Friday Hot Springs Gallery Walk reception. The exhibit, up through June 30, will also showcase work by Michael Ashley, Robyn Horn, Sammy Peters, Dolores Justus Reuther, Sandra Sella and Gene Sparling. Saturday storytelling

“Hand Drums and Storytelling with Zinse Agginie,” Saturdays through July 4 at the Museum of Discovery, 500 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, explores the power of storytelling, open to “all general admission guests on a first-come, first-serve basis.” Sessions are at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

This Saturday’s subject: “Why Spiders Fear the Sun.” Anansi the Spider decides to organize a feast to bring excitement to his world, but promises made without honesty quickly lead to trouble.

The rest of the lineup:

◼️ June 13: “Anansi and the Itching Village” (original story by Agginie). Driven by jealousy and greed, Anansi attempts to disrupt an important village festival, only to become the victim of his own scheme.

◼️ June 20: “Beware of Strangers.” Mother Antelope’s three babies ignore the rules of the forest and face dangerous consequences.

◼️ June 27: “Mend Your Manners or How Tiger Got Stripes on Her Coat.” Two animal friends discover how poor manners and disrespect can damage relationships.

◼️ July 4: “The Eagle and the Birds.” Eagle uses bullying and tricks to frighten the other birds and take what belongs to them, leading to serious consequences.

Funding for the series comes from Arkansas Arts Council.

Admission is free for all museum guests and member families. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the museum on the day of each event. Space is limited to 25 guests per session.

‘Personal, cultural memory’

Novelist and Civil War historian Ronnie A. Nichols “headlines” An Evening with Ronnie Nichols, “celebrating legacy, storytelling, history and the power of preserving personal and cultural memory,” according to a news release, 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock. The event will feature “a Southern-themed reception, a fireside-style conversation” with Nichols, hosted by Mikki Taylor, editor-at-large for Essence Magazine, and a book signing. ‘Lion King in Concert’

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra has put tickets — $29-$109 (pricing subject to change) — on sale for its Disney’s “The Lion King Live in Concert,” performing Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-winning score while the 1994 animated film screens above and behind the “band,” 7:30 p.m. March 12-13 and 3 p.m. March 14 at Little Rock’s Robinson Center Performance Hall, 426 W.
