(TNND) — Prince Harry travelled to the U.K. on Monday for a visit to his charities, sparking rumors about whether or not he would meet with his father, King Charles III, for the first time in over a year.
Harry’s trip to the U.K. on Monday marked the third anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Harry visited the late queen’s grave in Windsor to pay respect and lay flowers on her grave. He also attended the WellChild Awards on Monday night in London, a charity he has long supported.
“For two decades, this event has shone a bright spotlight on the needs of children and young people living with complex medical conditions,” Harry said in a speech at the awards ceremony, according to celebrity.land.
Amid tension in the royal family’s relationships, Harry has little contact with his father and older brother, Prince William, since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, renounced their royal duties and moved back to California in 2020. Tension built up even more when Harry wrote a tell-all memoir about his family, titled “Spare.”
When Harry was in London last April, he seemed keen to resolve growing tensions with his family, despite what he wrote in “Spare.” Harry went to a court case to restore his police protection detail that was stopped after he gave up his royal duties.
“There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he told the BBC on the day the court case was resolved. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
On the other hand, he said it was hard to forgive his family for taking away that protection.
What I’m struggling to forgive, and what I will probably always struggle to forgive, is the decision that was made in 2020 that affects my every single day and that is knowingly putting me and my family in harm’s way,” Harry said.
The last time Harry and Charles saw each other was in February 2024. This was after Charles was diagnosed with cancer. The two spent about 45 minutes together.
Although Harry seems back and forth about the status of the relationship, The Mail on Sunday captured a photo of the new team handling Harry and Meghan’s communications, headed by Los Angeles-based Meredith Maines, on the balcony of a private members’ club in London, speaking with Tobyn Andreae, the king’s press representative. The paper called it, “The secret Harry peace summit.”
However, the prince is seemingly putting the ball in his family’s court.
“It would be nice to have that reconciliation part now,” Harry told the BBC. “If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”
