Chris Brown is addressing the recurring debate over “who’s better” when it comes to Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Usher, and himself.
Breezy took to Instagram Saturday (Sept. 6) with his “honest opinion” on the matter. “Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, and Usher are all the BEST superstars in lanes of their own,” Brown wrote.
He continued, “Back in the day, music was individuality and we were able to be inspired by all the artist from the past because they were the best versions of their creativity WITHOUT DEBATES ON WHO’S BETTER.”
Brown admittedly is aware of debates surrounding who is the best performer out of these four. Still, he will never claim to be “better” than any of them.
“The truth is that we all shine bright in our own way. I’LL NEVER SAY IMA BETTER ANYTHING. I’M just being the best Chris Brown,” he stated. “IN SOME WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, THESE ARTISTS HAVE INFLUENCED ME TO GO HARD AND NEVER GIVE UP. I JUST WANT TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR HELPING PEOPLE WITH MY GIFTS.”
Fans of the “It Depends” crooner know that one of his greatest influences is the undisputed King of Pop. Brown even noted in the statement, “Michael Jackson will forever be the GOAT and that’s not even arguable.”
Regarding the debates and such, Breezy hopes, “what we have accomplished individually [will] spark the minds and hearts of the next generation after us.” He added, “We have an obligation to keep this art form alive.”
This is far from the first time Brown has addressed comparisons to Jackson and Usher.
During a 2022 sit-down with radio veteran, Big Boy, the singer felt the parallels stemmed from a “generational gap” and was grateful for the narrative switch when it came to him. “It could be a lot worse. I remember there use to be a whole different conversation about Chris Brown. I’m thankful in the regards,” he quipped.
The Brown/Usher fodder peaked during the cultural phenomenon of Verzuz. Neither party agreed to the battle, despite fans’ demands. Yet, that didn’t stop notable Ursher collaborator, Jermaine Dupri, from recently explaining why he hasn’t (and potentially wouldn’t) work with Breezy. Watch below.
