Matt Damon has been one of Hollywood’s most reliable superstars for 25 years. Ever since Good Will Hunting, Damon has been both bankable and versatile, combining genres and working with different directors to show off his abilities.
He’s the main character in this month’s biggest box office draw, The Odyssey. It’s not the first time Damon has worked with Christopher Nolan, previously appearing in Oppenheimer and Interstellar.
We’re not here to tell you to watch Damon in those movies again, although a good rewatch of Nolan and Damon’s catalogues is never a bad idea. No, this list is to shine a light on some of Damon’s more underrated or forgotten projects. Here are three movies with Matt Damon you should watch that may have slipped between the cracks.
The Brothers Grimm (2005)
This movie was released at the peak of Damon’s early prime when he was in the Bourne series. While those movies got most of the attention, this adventure movie based on the lore surrounding the fairy tale writers of the same name also stars Heath Ledger. Damon and Ledger make for a dynamic duo, although the movie barely broke even at the box office.
We Bought a Zoo (2011)
Action actors love to take a turn into family and comedy movies, and Damon was no different in the early 2010s. Damon stars next to Scarlett Johansson in this easy-going flick about a family that tries to get a zoo back running before it opens to the public.
Air (2023)
A collaboration with best friend Ben Affleck, Air is the story of how Michael Jordan and Nike formed one of the most financially successful partnerships in the history of sports apparel. The movie mixes a lot of different genres, and fans of the NBA will love this dramatic retelling of the details behind the greatest basketball player ever also becoming the most marketable athlete of all time.
