Luis Ayala’s Fiebre Announces Departure from Freddie Records, Promises New Music and Fresh Collaborations – Tejano Nation

After months of legal developments and a major transition in the band’s storied history, Luis Ayala has announced that he and his group, Luis Ayala’s Fiebre, have officially parted ways with Freddie Records.

In a statement released this week, Ayala informed fans, promoters, and supporters that he has been released from the legendary record label, emphasizing that the move marks a new beginning rather than a setback for the band.

“I want to personally inform our fans, promoters, and supporters that I have officially been released from Freddie Records,” Ayala stated. “This decision will not slow us down. If anything, it opens the door to new opportunities and growth for our band.”

Ayala expressed confidence in the future of Luis Ayala’s Fiebre, citing the unwavering support of the group’s loyal fanbase and the growing interest from songwriters eager to contribute to the band’s next chapter.

“In recent weeks, we’ve had songwriters reach out who are ready to bring new music to Luis Ayala’s Fiebre,” he said. “We now have collaborations developing with writers from Mexico and others we will be announcing soon.”

The veteran bandleader also highlighted longtime vocalist and songwriter J. Angel Cantu as a key creative force behind the group’s future recordings.

“Let’s not forget, we already have an incredible songwriter in our own camp,” Ayala said. “J Angel Cantu has been a driving force behind this band for years and will continue to play a major role in writing music for Luis Ayala’s Fiebre.”

The announcement comes just weeks after Ayala addressed the outcome of litigation involving the La Fiebre name and branding. On May 18, Luis Ayala’s Fiebre released a public statement confirming that legal disputes involving longtime co-owners Luis Ayala, Rudy Rocha, and Joe Angel Reynosa had been resolved earlier this year.

At the time, Ayala confirmed he would continue performing under the banner “Luis Ayala’s Fiebre,” while remaining committed to preserving the band’s signature sound.

“I will continue forward as Luis Ayala’s Fiebre,” Ayala said in May. “We’re focused on the music, the shows, and bringing you the sound you know… from The Ones You Know.”

Founded in Pasadena, Texas, in 1985, La Fiebre became one of the most influential and successful groups in Tejano music history. The band’s powerful brass-driven sound, energetic live performances, and blend of Tejano, rock, and big band influences helped produce enduring hits such as “Borracho de Besos,” “El Amor Se Acaba,” and “Eres Mi Primer Amor.”

Over nearly four decades, La Fiebre earned Grammy recognition, chart success, and a devoted fan following that continues today.

In recent months, Ayala has reintroduced the band’s legacy under the theme “The Ones You Know,” describing the current era as a continuation of the group’s musical identity rather than a reunion.

“This is not a reunion—it’s a recalibration,” Ayala previously stated. “As a band of brothers, we unite. This is about honoring the music, the fans, and the legacy—while moving forward with integrity and purpose.”

Ayala reaffirmed that commitment in his latest statement, promising that the band’s trademark sound will remain intact despite the departure from Freddie Records.

“Our band is solid. Our team is focused. And our vision has never been clearer,” he said. “No matter where we go from here, our band will continue to deliver that signature trumpet sound and the true Fiebre sound fans have known since the 80s.”

The current Luis Ayala’s Fiebre lineup includes Luis Ayala, J. Angel Cantu, Julian Gonzalez, Jonas Flores, Joe Lara, Gene Luna, Junior Cantu, and Henry Luna.

As the band enters this new independent chapter, Ayala says fans can expect new music, new collaborations, and major announcements in the months ahead.

“We remain committed to our fans, our music, and preserving the sound that has connected generations of Fiebre fans for decades,” Ayala said. “Stay tuned. There’s no stopping us now.”
