Rotary clubs build Little Free Libraries

EAST COUNTY: Rotary clubs team up on community service project bringing books to neighborhoods…
Five East County Rotary Clubs recently teamed up to build and paint 10 Little Free Libraries, which contain books that community members can exchange for other books. The “libraries” are typically decorated wooden boxes with windows that contain a few bookshelves and that stand on neighborhood streets or in community places to give everyone access to books. The motto of the nonprofit Little Free Libraries is “Take a Book, Share a Book.” Rotarians placed the public library boxes in schools and parks in their communities as part of worldwide Rotary International Epic Day of Service, which “brings together 1.2 million Rotarians and countless community members for a day of working on service projects.” Two Rotary clubs from La Mesa and two from El Cajon along with one from Santee-Lakeside collaborated on the building project at La Mesa First United Methodist Church.
