A debut is the formal presentation of a girl or young woman to society, a social rite of passage. Many generations have enjoyed the experience and cherish the memories. Once again in our Crescent City, a new flock of young ladies steps forward at parties and presentations, joining the tradition of debutantes of decades past.
The culmination of this special season occurs during the weeks of Carnival – and will conclude in 2027 on Mardi Gras, Feb. 9 – when the debutantes appear in the spectacular balls. Several are maids in multiple courts. A select few wear crowns and answer, albeit ever so briefly, to “Your Majesty.”
