Newly released police records are providing additional insight into the domestic dispute that briefly placed 90 Day Fiancé star Thais Ramone at the center of a criminal investigation before prosecutors ultimately declined to move forward with charges. According to a police report obtained by TMZ, Ramone’s estranged husband, Patrick Mendes, told officers she slapped him during an argument involving their daughter just days after he filed for divorce.
The report stems from a May 22 incident at Ramone’s Nevada residence. Mendes reportedly contacted police and alleged that Ramone struck him in the face during a confrontation that erupted after he arrived at the home. According to the report, Mendes told officers he had served Ramone with divorce papers two days earlier and had stopped by so their child could say goodbye before Ramone traveled to her native Brazil.
Police documents reviewed by TMZ state that Mendes claimed Ramone became upset during the visit and that the disagreement escalated. Officers wrote that Mendes alleged, “Thais slapped him on the left side of his face with an open right hand.”
The report further notes that responding officers observed marks on Mendes’ face that they believed were consistent with his account. TMZ also reported that Mendes provided officers with video footage of the alleged incident.
During the investigation, Ramone offered a different perspective. According to the police report, she described Mendes as “controlling” and acknowledged that an argument occurred. She also told officers she acted in self-defense. Following their investigation, police arrested Ramone on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.
The incident quickly became part of a much larger story unfolding around the former TLC couple. Just days earlier, Mendes had filed for divorce after four years of marriage. Court documents previously reported by TMZ show Mendes seeking sole legal and physical custody of the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, Aleesi, while stating that the pair had been living separately since early May.
Despite the arrest, the criminal case was short-lived. Court records show the matter was forwarded to prosecutors for review, but the Clark County District Attorney ultimately declined to pursue charges.
In a previous statement to TMZ, a representative for Ramone said, “Situations involving relationships and family dynamics are rarely black and white,” adding that she had “no interest in escalating negativity publicly.”
The representative also described Ramone as “a devoted mother, deeply family-oriented, and someone who has always led with heart.”
Mendes and Ramone are set to appear on the latest season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Last Resort, which premieres June 1 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The series follows couples attempting to work through serious relationship issues in therapy.
