When a team is 13 games below .500 and sits six games out of a Wild Card slot in early June, fans generally start to suppress October fantasies and instead focus on player development. Jac Caglianone was tapped to be a core member of the Kansas City Royals for the years to come, and amid a hot start to June, he is beginning to showcase his promising offensive talents. Alas, the 23-year-old right fielder exited Saturday’s 3-2 comeback win versus the Minnesota Twins with shoulder soreness, per MLB.com’s Anne Rogers.

Caglianone took only one at-bat on the afternoon and was denied a proper opportunity to extend his three-game hitting streak. He crashed into the wall in Friday’s 5-3 loss but decided to push through. He sported a wrap hours before the second game of the series, which proved to be a bad omen.
The No. 6 overall selection in the 2024 MLB Draft already has three multi-hit games this month, so hopefully he can avoid time on the injured list and build on this impressive stretch.
Kansas City has yet to slap a sellers label on itself — perhaps a feeble American League can delay such a fate for a bit longer — but the front office probably has an eye on the future given the current state of the team. A blossoming Jac Caglianone can better prepare the Royals for the 2027 campaign. He has recorded a .250 batting average, .326 on-base percentage and .406 slugging percentage with six home runs and 15 RBIs through 60 games.
It has taken the 6-foot-4 left-handed batter some time to get into a groove at the MLB-level, but he is looking more comfortable at the dish of late. Therefore, any real setback would be quite discouraging. Caglianone, the Royals and their fans are hoping for the best.
