This month, Harmony Tividad releases Lifetime, the followup to her sleazy electro-pop masterpiece Gossip. So far she’s previewed Lifetime with “Where Strangers Go,” “Anything,” “Apple Pie,” and “I’m Still Learning How To Leave You,” all of which reverberate with the introspective indie pop of her Girlpool days. Now, she’s back with another one called “Best Dressed.”
“[Director] Caroline [Iaffaldano] and I were inspired by vintage bandstand videos and wanted to capture the energy of those old performances. The 1960s television stage becomes a metaphor for the performance of femininity, existing in a world built around spectacle and perception.”
The lyrics are half-clever, half-gloomy, like when she calls herself a “bootleg celebrity.” Then there are lines that just sort of knock you down: “Beauty serves me but it demands/ A lot of things I don’t understand.” Ouch! Watch below.
Lifetime is out 6/26 on KRO.
