Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube may be ready to grab some handcuffs once again.

Indeed, more than a decade after the trio starred in 22 Jump Street, a new movie in the franchise is locked and loaded, the film’s producer confirmed June 10.

Neal H. Moritz shared a photo on his Instagram of the 24 Jump Street script—written by Hill, Megan Malloy and the upcoming film’s director Rodney Rothman—that read, “It took so long to make, we had to skip one.”

Alongside the announcement, he captioned the post, “A picture says a thousand words!”

Meanwhile, Tatum, Hill and Ice Cube (real name O’Shea Jackson, Sr.) are currently in talks to return as stars of the third film in the franchise, multiple outlets have reported.

Although Phil Lord and Chris Miller won’t be helming the movie as they did for 2012’s 21 Jump Street and its 2014 sequel, they were recruited as producers, along with Hill and Tatum.

A 23 Jump Street film was previously in the works, designed as a crossover between the cop comedy and the Men in Black franchise that was ultimately scrapped, according to leaked Sony Pictures emails in 2014, obtained by Variety.

“There is a project that was written,” Tatum told Comicbook.com in June 2024, “and it’s still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie.”

Despite little movement on the initial third installment, the Magic Mike star was still manifesting a new chapter for his and Hill’s cop duo, Jenko and Schmidt, who go undercover as students in a high school and, later, a college.

“You know what, I’m going to put some good juju out there and I’m going to say I would love to see 23 Jump Street,” he told the outlet. “I would love to do it with Jonah, and Jonah, I know, wants to do it. We would love to just get to go play again.”

When it came to their sequel, Hill emphasized that returning to the project—based on the 1987 series of the same name starring Johnny Depp—for 22 Jump Street was only possible with a dose of self-awareness.

“We call ourselves out right out of the gate in this one, that sequels are bigger and crappier than the first ones,” the Superbad actor told Collider in 2014 of the second movie. “So, that’s kinda the approach we’re taking with this, to have a very aware attack at ourselves for making a sequel in the first place.”

“The initial thought when I was starting to write the first movie was, ‘Bad Boys meets a John Hughes movie.’ The only way to make fun of ourselves in this movie is that sequels are more expensive and shittier than the first ones,” Hill added. “It really does feel like a big giant movie, but with really stupid jokes in it, which is kinda great and super entertaining, hopefully.”
