Taylor Swift went viral last night when she arrived at Madison Square Garden for the NBA Finals to cheer for the New York Knicks as they faced the San Antonio Spurs. After the singer was seen dressed in a “Stevie Knicks” shirt created by close friend Alana Haim, a hot-mic moment by an ESPN reporter went viral when she assumed the pop star was not a Knicks fan.
Monica McNutt, who has since apologized for the hot-mic moment, was discussing with Knicks’ radio voice, Tyler Murray, about Swift’s arrival at The Garden.
“Is that Taylor Swift down there?” McNutt asked Murray.
McNutt is later heard saying, “She’s not a Knicks fan, get out of here, girl,” McNutt said.
As previously noted, McNutt has since apologized per TMZ and shared she has since learned about the singer’s fandom. The outlet reports that since she’s been covering celebrity row all season and didn’t see Swift, it reflected in her assumption.
Since McNutt’s comment, fans have been resurfacing photos and videos of Swift, which included the singer playing with Knicks stars back in 2014.
Another photo that resurfaced was a photo of the singer in a Knicks jersey posing next to Knicks superfan Jimmy Fallon.
An unnamed source told Page Six that the singer shared that she would be there to support the Knicks last night ahead of her arrival.
“She’s a huge fan of the Knicks and really wants to be there to support them. She is going with friends,” the source told the outlet.
The singer was not the only celebrity that came out to see the Knicks historic win as the MSG was Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, Spike Lee, Ben Stiller, and more were also present.
The Knicks will now face the Spurs for Game 5 on the road on Saturday, June 13 after their history-making 106-107 win in Game 4. Tip-off will be at 8:30 pm ET and if they are able to pull off another win, they will be bringing the NBA Championship back to New York for the first time in 53 years.
