For all New Yorkers, the Knicks winning their first championship in 53 years is monumental, and Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel is feeling it.

He took to Instagram to reflect on the Knicks’ first championship in over “half a century,” as Disel pointed out. Diesel has been a fan for a long time, reminiscing about “sneaking” into games.

“The Garden, Ali and Frazier, fight of the century. Me and my cousin Marcus sneaking in the back door, up the exit stairs to the bleachers. Two broke kids in the cheapest seats in the world, feeling like kings,” he wrote. “The year President Ford told us we were on our own. DROP DEAD, the paper said, and the whole city read it on the subway and went to work anyway. Nobody was coming to save New York, so New York saved itself.

“The tall ships on the Hudson, Celebrating Independence, America turning two hundred, the fireworks coming up off the water, me on the docks somehow knowing my little corner meant something to the world. I was a first-grader, PS 41, when the Knicks went to LA to beat Wilt and the Lakers… prouder than I knew how to describe…” Diesel continued.

The Knicks’ championship win has given him the chance to reflect on his early days. He also celebrated the United States’ 250th birthday, tying it back to the Knicks.

“Tonight… if you stand back far enough to see it. Half a century… Fifty years since I stood on that dock for America’s two hundredth birthday… Half a century since this city last held the trophy… and now, both come around at once,” Diesel wrote. “250 years old, the whole country about to stand up and ask itself what it is, what it ever was, what it still might be… and the answer walked off the floor tonight in orange and blue.”

He also praised the Knicks’ “resilience,” comparing it to how the United States won World War II. Diesel wrote, “The Knicks didn’t win pretty, they won the way New York always wins… by refusing to lose. You made every New Yorker proud. You made America proud. In the very year we celebrate the resilience of a nation, you reminded the world exactly what the word means.”
