King Charles III has a special relationship with one of his extended relatives.
According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, His Majesty is extremely close to his nephew Peter Phillips.
Peter is a ‘key part’ of Charles’ family life
While not many people know, Charles and Princess Anne‘s son sees each other quite often behind closed doors.

“He [Peter] is very close to his uncle, the King,” the ex-employee told OLBG.
“The King enjoys spending time with Peter and his sister Zara [Tindall], which we see whenever they attend public events together,” he continued. “The King has a lot of time and love for him.”
Peter has no ‘official’ royal responsibilities
Despite being a close relative, the Princess Royal never wanted her children to be working members of The Firm.

“Princess Anne purposely didn’t give him a title when he was born so that he didn’t have such a public profile,” Harrold claimed.
“Even though he’s a member of the royal family and he’s in the line of succession, he doesn’t have any official responsibilities. But he’s still a close family member and a key part of the more private side of the family’s life,” the expert noted.
Peter often attends royal events
Although the businessman doesn’t have a title, he has a solidified presence within the family.

“He’s had quite an active role in royal events over the years,” Harrold claimed. “He was on the committee for Queen Elizabeth II‘s Jubilee celebrations. When it comes to family activities, he’s also very involved.”
“When Prince William talks about a slimmed-down monarchy, that’s definitely a branch that will go in a different direction,” he continued. “But he will be absolutely fine with that. He’s a businessman, he does his own thing and enjoys his own life away from the spotlight.”
Peter likes being an ‘unknown’ royal
Harrold claimed Peter doesn’t feel the need for attention despite growing up in the public eye.

“He’s very calm and very cool and he has a great sense of humor,” the former staffer noted.
“He’s very unassuming. He’s almost an unknown member of the family and he keeps out of the spotlight a lot,” he added.
Peter’s friendship with William
Not only is Charles close with Peter, but the Prince of Wales shares a close friendship with his cousin.

“He had a very similar sense of humor to Prince William and Harry. They all have really good banter,” Harrold claimed.
“They all love practical jokes. I remember getting the train up to London with him and he would just talk about his ‘granny’, who was of course the late Queen,” he noted.
