Mike Myers Gives a Quick Answer on Whether There Will Be an “Austin Powers 4”

Mike Myers still insists he will don Austin Powers’ shaggy hair for a fourth entry in his beloved spoof spy movie franchise.

Myers, 63, said as much when he appeared on comedian Trevor Noah‘s FIFA World Cup livestream watch party for the France vs. Senegal match on Tuesday, June 16 alongside his son Spike, 14. During the livestream, Noah, 42, began taking questions from viewers via YouTube’s chat function.

“Chat wants to know — are we ever going to see an Austin Powers 4?” Noah asked. “Yes,” Myers responded immediately. “Wow. That was a quick yes,” Noah remarked.

Roughly 10 minutes later, Noah noted that another user watching his livestream of the World Cup match wrote that Myers’ son Spike “could play the next Austin Powers Jr.”

“That could be cool,” Noah said. “Yeah, mini Austin,” Spike responded. “I saw someone on Reddit, there was a photo of me, one time I looked, and it was like ‘Yeah, it seems Mike has his own mini-me now.’ I laughed, it was funny.”

Myers has portrayed his iconic British spy character Austin Powers in three movies produced between 1997 and 2002. The films are made partially as spoofs of 1960s spy movies, as Austin is a spy from the ’60s who is cryogenically frozen and brought back in the late ’90s when the villain Dr. Evil (whom Myers also portrays) returns from his own cryogenic frozen chamber.

The series’ third and most recent entry, 2002’s Austin Powers in Goldmember, saw Beyoncé, Michael Caine, Seth Green and Verne Troyer costar and included memorable cameos from Tom Cruise, Danny DeVito, Gwyneth Paltrow, Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, John Travolta, Britney Spears and more.

Myers has discussed making a fourth movie in the series for more than 20 years. He told Entertainment Weekly in 2005 that he was “circling and talking” with the studio that produces the franchise, and told IGN in a 2007 interview that “there is a fully conceived idea for a fourth” movie that would be told from Dr. Evil’s point of view.

During a 2022 interview with Jess Cagle on SiriusXM, Myers played coy when asked about the potential for a fourth movie. “I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project, should it exist or not exist,” he said, though he otherwise said he “would love to” make a new entry.

The actor said much of the same during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 49th AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2024. When the outlet asked Myers whether he thought the series “has more story to tell,” he said, “Absolutely.”

It’s unclear what a fourth Austin Powers movie would look like. Despite the internet’s suggestion that Spike, one of three children Myers shares with wife Kelly Tisdale, star in the movie as Powers’ son or a younger version of him, the teen told Noah during his World Cup livestream that he has not sought out acting or comedy opportunities so far in his life.

“I actually almost failed my theater class recently,” Spike deadpanned.

Myers most recently appeared on the big screen in April’s Michael Jackson biopic in one scene as former CBS Records executive Walter Yetnikoff. He will reprise another beloved 2000s role when he voices Shrek once more in Shrek 5, scheduled to hit theaters in June 2027.
