From BBQ to fireworks: 13 events to explore in Southwest Austin and Dripping Springs in July

Check out 14 events for locals to attend in Southwest Austin and Dripping Springs happening late June and July. Activities include Independence Day celebrations, live performances and barbecue cook-offs.

This list is not comprehensive, and all events are subject to change.

Annie at The Topfer at Zach

Zach Theatre will present the musical “Annie,” about a young orphan who hopes to find her perfect family. The musical is led by Associate Artistic Director Cassie Abate, with musical direction from Spencer Hansen and choreography from Kiira Carper.

Pride Picnic

Pease Park Conservancy is collaborating with Future Front Texas to celebrate Pride with its fifth annual picnic. Visitors can enjoy crafts, live DJ sets, over 30 pop-up booths from small businesses and more.

Fire in the Sky!

Dripping Springs residents can celebrate Independence Day with a fireworks display at Dripping Springs Ranch Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Independence Day Fest

Meanwhile Brewing will host a Fourth of July event with live music, free face painting, water balloon toss, cornhole tournament and a FIFA Game watch party.

Austin Symphony Fourth of July Concert and Fireworks

Locals can visit Auditorium Shores for food trucks, activities, market vendors, live entertainment and fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic

Live music lovers can celebrate America’s Independence Day with live performances from Willie Nelson and Family, Billy Strings, Sheryl Crow, Margo Price and more.

Big Tex Gun Show

Dripping Springs Ranch Park will host the Big Tex Gun Show in early July. The event is open to all; attendees under 21-years-old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Zero Waste Resource Fair

Austin Resource Recovery will host a sustainability fair at the Montopolis Recreation and Community Center. Austin residents can learn about multifamily housing composting, pick up a free kitchen compost collector if you live in an apartment or condo and grab a snack.

Austin Public Library 100th Birthday Bash

The Austin Public Library will host its centennial celebration at the central library location. The birthday bash will feature crafts, party crowns and party games.

Hot Summer Nights

The Red River Cultural District will host its annual free summer music festival with performances at Chess Club, Kingdom, Stubb’s, Swan Dive and more. The festival will also include a Hot Summer Nights Market on July 18 at Stubb’s Liberty Lunch by Future Front Texas.

4th Recon Veterans 1st Annual BBQ Raffle Event

The raffle event will be held at The Pavilion at The Salt Lick and include an evening of barbecue, prizes and music. Proceeds from the raffle will support Marines and sailors of the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion.

BBQ Cook-Off

Hill Country Rally for Kids will host a cook-off with teams competing to have the best Tito’s Handmade Vodka cocktail, beans, salsa and barbecue. The event will be held at Camp Ben McCulloch with live music on Friday and a car show on Saturday.

Summer BBQ and Live Fire Master Class

Camp Lucy is set to host a three-day barbecue master class featuring Texas pitmasters who will teach live-fire cooking. Students will learn about butchery, meat science, fire management, seasoning and more. Pitmasters include Evan LeRoy, owner of LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue.
