KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KQTV) – St. Joseph native Noah Cameron picked up his 4th victory of the season for the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night in a 14-6 thumping of the rival St. Louis Cardinals.

Cameron pitched 5 innings, finishing with 6 strikeouts and gave up 8 hits and 4 runs. He now has a 4.20 ERA on the season. But Cameron’s teammates helped him out on the offensive side Thursday night.

“Definitely a battle today. They’re putting good at bats together. I was kind of nibbling a little bit, throwing some balls when we were up, how much we were up. I needed to attack a little bit better, just have quick innings,” said Cameron. “If I give up a couple of hits, it kind of happens. But days like today, I should have, should have been just a little bit more on the attack. Thankfully when the guys are hitting like that, it’s a lot of fun in the dugout, just watching them.”

Cameron improves to 4-4 and his next scheduled start will be on Wednesday, June 24th on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays at 5:40 pm.

The Royals racked up season highs of 17 hits and 14 runs, including scoring 6 in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

“Unbelievable. I was impressed. Everybody puts something on the field, and that’s why we scored so many runs, a lot of doubles. That’s impressive,” said Starling Marte, who was 3-for-5 at the plate with 1 RBI. “Hopefully we continue to do the job and everybody puts something every day, today was the day that we showed what we do.”

On a scary note for the Royals on Thursday, star shortstop Bobby Witt Junior landed awkwardly on his right knee fielding a ball in the 4th inning, he soon left the game and did not return with right knee discomfort.

“When Bobby goes down, that’s really concerning, right? The fact that he stayed in at first was a little bit encouraging and then watching him come off the field was pretty obvious he was going to have to come out,” said manager Matt Quatraro. “Definitely concerning. He didn’t think he could stay in. We didn’t think he could stay in. It wasn’t a fight to take him out.”

Captain Salvador Perez was one of 3 Royals players who hit home runs in the game. Perez passed George Brett for the most home runs in Kauffman Stadium ever by a Royals player with 137 dingers.

“Means a lot, especially a Hall of Famer like George Brett. I have the opportunity to spend a lot of time with him. One of the best, one of the greatest, so I feel pretty good,” said Perez. “But I always say, I think the most important thing is that we won the game tonight.”

The Royals improve to 31-45 on the season and will face the Cardinals in game 2 of the series on Friday, June 19th at 7:15 pm.
