The Kansas City Royals were defeated by a final score of 12-10 on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. It was a competitive ball game that saw both teams score runs at a high level. The pitching coaches on both sides surely were not thrilled with the performance. While the Royals’ offense performed well, the Cardinals were able to score more runs in the contest.
Kansas City recorded 12 hits en route to the 10 runs scored. Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino did not play due to injuries, so the Royals found success despite playing without two of their best hitters.

Michael Massey had three hits to lead the way in the game. Carter Jensen and Jac Caglianone both had two hits as well. Jensen, Caglianone and Nick Loftin all had home runs in the matchup.
Caglianone’s performance stands out. He is beginning to find his rhythm at the plate. The outfielder entered the 2026 campaign with lofty expectations, and he is now beginning to display his potential.
So far this season, Caglianone is hitting .275/.349/.480 to go along with 12 home runs and 12 doubles across 72 games played.
Jensen, a young catcher, has also had a respectable season. He is now hitting .244 to go along with a .749 OPS. Jensen has 10 home runs as well.

The Royals unquestionably feature a talented core of players. They have not performed up to their expectations as a team, but the future is bright.
When it comes to pitching, though, the Royals did not get the job done on Sunday. Stephen Kolek allowed nine runs while the bullpen surrendered three more runs in the game.
The Royals still won their series against the Cardinals 2-1. Kansas City’s offense scored 30 total runs during the three-game series. The lineup is performing well at the moment. They will look to keep things going — while hopefully getting more help from their pitching — during the upcoming week.

The Royals’ next series will be played against the Rays in Tampa Bay. It will be a four-game series, with the first contest scheduled for Monday night at 6:40 PM EST.
At 32-46, it has been a difficult season for this Royals ball club. They have won three of their past four games, though. Perhaps, Kansas City is beginning to find its rhythm. They will look to keep things going against the Rays.
