Rock icon Rod Stewart needed to take a literal breather during a show in Utah on Friday night.
Footage posted by TMZ, which can be seen here, shows Stewart, 81, leaning on the keyboard, drum screen and more through the 1981 hit “Young Turks.”
Despite that struggle, he managed to keep singing, tap his feet and wiggle a little to the song. But eventually, an assistant came out with an oxygen tank.
“The show must go on,” he said after a few deep breaths of the oxygen. “I nearly fucking fainted up there.”
He said trying to do his dance moves didn’t help matters.
“Would you mind if I sat down for this one?” he said as he lowered himself onto the stage’s steps.
Eventually, someone brought out a chair.
According to Setlist.fm, Stewart ― a two-time member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his work as a solo artist as well as his time with Faces ― did another seven songs after the scare to complete the show.
TMZ noted that the show was held in West Valley City, some 4,300 feet above sea level, which may not have helped matters.
He performed on Sunday night in Rancho Mirage, California, with no apparent issues, based on reports on social media.
Stewart has been battling illness and has canceled a few shows in recent weeks ― including several last week due to an acute upper respiratory infection and laryngitis.
However, he caused a stir among fans when he was seen at a World Cup game in Boston right after canceling a show in California.
“I’ve been to seven World Cups,” he bragged in a video from what looked like a private jet on the way to the game, then sang “No Scotland, No Party.”
