There are places in Toronto that hold memory.

The historic Palm House at Allan Gardens is one of them.

For generations, Allan Gardens has been a place of refuge, beauty, gathering, and quiet wonder in the heart of downtown Toronto. Its glass conservatory has offered warmth in the winter, shade in the summer, and a rare sense of calm in the middle of the city.

Now, this beloved public space is entering a new chapter.

Palmhouse Sessions is a new live music series created to bring the historic Palm House alive once again through community, culture, and local Toronto talent. Presented in partnership with Friends of Allan Gardens, the series invites people back into the conservatory in a new way.Set against a lush backdrop of tropical plants and flowers, with the Palm House’s glass dome overhead and the night sky above, Palmhouse Sessions offers a rare experience in the heart of the city: intimate, atmospheric, and impossible to recreate anywhere else in Toronto.

Bring your friends, take your photos, capture the moment. The FOMO will be real!

For the first edition, Palmhouse Sessions pays tribute to J Dilla, one of the most influential producers in hip-hop history, whose sound continues to shape jazz, soul, R&B, electronic music, and beat culture across generations.

The Music

This one of a kind musical experience will bring listeners on a journey through the soundcapes and moods of J Dilla’s catalog, all performed live with a 4-piece band.

Never before heard live arrangements and mashups of his beats and songs with breathe new life into these iconic tracks, and will showcase a blend of his most famous and well known works, as well as extremely rare “deep-cuts” that few have ever heard.

Expect to hear tracks he made for Slum Village, The Pharcyde, Common, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, The Roots, and many others.

Enjoy Vinyl DJ sets of strictly J Dilla tunes during the band setbreaks.

Cash Bar

A cash bar will be available throughout the evening featuring cocktails, wine, and beer.

The evening will also feature a signature cocktail, with proceeds supporting Friends of Allan Gardens’ planned expansion of the Allan Gardens Conservatory. The expansion vision calls for growing the conservatory’s footprint and revitalizing the surrounding parkland to create more space for gardens, public programming, education, culture, and community gathering.

Expand the Conservatory at Allan Gardens:

Transportation

Guests are encouraged to walk, bike, or take transit to Allan Gardens whenever possible.

By TTC: The Conservatory is located near the Carlton streetcar route, with access from nearby subway stations including College Station and Sherbourne station.

By bike: Bike Share Toronto is available at the northeast corner of Allan Gardens, and bicycle parking is available throughout the park and surrounding area.

By car: Parking in the area is limited. Street parking may be available on nearby streets, and

Green P municipal paid parking is available nearby at 450 Sherbourne St.

Palmhouse Sessions is a new live music series presented in partnership with Friends of Allan Gardens, created to bring music, culture, and community into the heart of the historic Allan Gardens Conservatory.

The series celebrates the Palm House as a beloved public landmark and part of Toronto’s cultural history. Each session is designed as an intimate gathering that connects place, sound, community, and local creativity.

By supporting Palmhouse Sessions, guests are also supporting a broader vision for Allan Gardens: a more vibrant, welcoming, and animated public space where culture and community can thrive.

About Friends of Allan Gardens

Friends of Allan Gardens is the community stewardship organization dedicated to supporting the care, animation, and long-term future of Allan Gardens.

Through public programming, cultural partnerships, community events, advocacy, and on-the-ground stewardship, FOAG works to strengthen Allan Gardens as a welcoming, vibrant, and well-loved public space for Toronto residents and visitors.

As a partner in Palmhouse Sessions, FOAG is helping bring new cultural programming into the conservatory while supporting the broader revitalization and community life of Allan Gardens.

FOAG is also leading public advocacy for the planned expansion of the Allan Gardens Conservatory, a once-in-a-generation civic project to grow the conservatory, improve the surrounding parkland, and strengthen Allan Gardens as a year-round destination for horticulture, culture, education, and community life.

Accessibility, Washrooms & Notes

Everyone is welcome. The Allan Gardens Conservatory is fully accessible, and accessible washrooms are available in the Orchid-Bromeliad House, the southernmost house in the Conservatory.

This is a limited-capacity event. Please arrive early to allow time for entry.

Doors at 7pm. Music begins at 7:45pm
