Jason Knauf, chief executive of Earthshot, said the Prince had big plans for its last four years, including a possible trip to China and a return to the UK where the first awards were held.
“[William] is, by his own admission, always worried about things not being big enough, having enough impact,” Mr Knauf said.
“That’s what he’s constantly saying to us: are we doing enough? Who do I need to speak to? What phone calls do I need to make? Let’s commit to meetings, whatever we need to do. Now you’re starting to see that’s all paid off. And we’re not done.”
Mr Irwin, a conservationist and 2025 winner of Dancing with the Stars, is a long-term supporter of the Earthshot Prize.
He said the Prince “cares very, very deeply, and you know someone with his platform that is just mobilised, creating as much change as possible, is fantastic.
“You can’t fake passion, when you see it, it’s undeniable.
“When you’re working with the Earthshot Prize, something that is literally centered around solutions, instead of focusing on everything going wrong, let’s reward those that are making it right, that are really working hard to make a difference.
“That is so crucial because for too long environmentalism has felt like this big mountain that we just can’t approach.
“But the Earthshot Prize shows us that if we work together, it’s not just possible, but it’s necessary,” Mr Irwin added.
