Lindsay Lohan is responsible for many iconic one-liners from her wide array of generation-spanning movies, but how up-to-date is she on Gen Z lingo?
The actress, 39, stars in bank Chime’s latest campaign, Welcome to 30, celebrating the youngest millennials turning 30 this year. Lohan’s own birthday is coming up on July 2, and as she’s turning 40, Chime deemed her the “perfect guide” to advocate for a financial “glow up” for the generation’s youngest members.
Lohan poked fun at Gen Z lingo in one of the campaign’s bits, switching between the younger generation’s phrases like “aura” and “it’s cooked” and millennials’ shorthand like “yolo” and “basic.”

In an outtake at the end of the clip, Lohan expressed confusion at the hand motion for “clock it” (repeatedly tapping your middle or index finger against your thumb), saying, “What is the reason for this?”
The actress has some thoughts on the lingo in real life, too. While she tells PEOPLE in a new interview that she can “get on board with” phrases like “clock it” and “it’s giving” (which she says is “cute”), Lohan is not a fan of that hand motion.
“That I didn’t get. It’s like lazy,” she says. “What other ones? ‘Ate,’ I still am not really good at. It sounds like weird and rude. It just sounds silly.”

Silliness of the generational gap aside, Lohan felt promoting financial literacy for the youngest members of her generation was an important cause to promote in a fun way.
“I felt like it’s a generational moment right now, and it felt like it was fun to celebrate,” she says. “We were able to have fun with it. And whenever I see campaigns where I can have a lot of fun and poke fun or make people laugh, I always jump at those opportunities because we need more of that in the world.”
The actress stepped out to celebrate the launch of the campaign on June 24 at the Bowery Hotel in New York City, telling attendees that it was “so much fun” to film the three bits.
