The 2FM presenter is at the helm of the New Music Show on the station – here, he opens up about his best memory of starting live radio, the key advice he has received and his standout holiday
Best Memory:
My best memory would have to be my first ever live show on Weekend Breakfast on 2FM back in 2021. I remember the opportunity being so massive to me as I never would have imagined landing a permanent gig on national radio. Although it was on the weekends, I felt the massive responsibility of being the first voice you hear on the station on Saturday and Sunday mornings. That show lead me to the things I’m doing today and I’ll always be grateful for that time.
Best Actor/Actress:
It wouldn’t be surprising if I said Denzel Washington. He’s been in so many big movies over the course of my lifetime and if you really pay attention to the roles he takes on, he has range. From Training Day to Fences to Man on Fire to Malcom X, he takes on complex characters and makes them larger than life. He’s also a theatre actor so he really goes above and beyond for the craft.
Best Gig:
The best gig I’ve been to by far is Coldplay in Croker in 2024. Although I haven’t listened to every Coldplay album, I still somehow knew the majority of songs that they played in this gigantic stadium which was filled with neon lights attached to everyone’s wrists, bouncy balls, silly costumes and of course Coldplay themselves. It also happens to be my first time ever stepping foot in Croke Park so it was very memorable for me.
Best Song:
The best song is September by Earth, Wind & Fire. I wasn’t even alive when this song was released but it just shows how generational that song is. It brings me so much joy and great memories from when I was a child. I heard it at basically every wedding I’ve been to, including my own. Any important event or milestone in my life is soundtracked by this tune.
Best Book:
The best book I’ve read in recent times is a book by Charlamagne Tha God called “Get Honest Or Die Lying (Why Small Talk Sucks)”. Charlamagne is a radio broadcaster from the US based in New York who I’ve been a fan of since I was a teenager and he wrote about being your authentic self and broadening your scope in life while tackling obstacles that may come your way and he does it by also telling stories from his own life. It’s his third book and it’s well written. Highly recommend.
Best Movie:
My best movie of all time is “The Pursuit of Happiness” with Will Smith and a very young Jaden Smith in his first film. It’s a true story based on Chris Gardner’s life and his nearly one year struggle of being homeless. If there’s a film where you can pinpoint Will being one of the GOATs, it’s this one right here. Amazing film. Amazing story and a great watch if you haven’t seen it yet.
Best Holiday:
Best holiday would be Gran Canaria with my wife in 2024. We love beach holidays and I feel like I become a different person when I’m there. We were there for about five days but we made the most of that trip by doing as much as possible every day. It’s the one holiday we look back at and say it was perfect.
Best Restaurant:
As a sushi lover, the best I’ve been to is Takara on Abbey Street, Dublin. They’ve the best I’ve ever eaten whether it’s Sushi or Chicken Katsu Curry. That place is top for me by far.
Best Beauty Product:
I might be the worst person to ask this but I suppose speaking generally, I use a Neutrogena daily face scrub obviously recommended to me by my wife. She’s really good at knowing her products and how good they can be for you so if she says they’re great then I’m straight on it.
Best Friend:
My best friend Jonathan is at the top of that list. I’ve known him since I was about seven but we didn’t become close until we were 14,15. Our families are close so his are like a second family to me, we’ve grown together and we both have been there for a lot of our big events in life. It was a no brainer to have him as my best man at my wedding.
Best Joke:
What did the plate say to the other plate?
“Dinner’s on me tonight!”
(Awful I know)
Best Advice:
The only person that can stop you from achieving your goals and dreams is you. Only you can physically do that. People can use words to sway or steer you away but that’s all they can do. The insecurity of others doesn’t determine how much you believe in yourself. Go out there and get it by any means.
