NJOI is an electronic dance band formed in 1989 by Mark Franklin & Nigel Champion. The duo have had four top 40 UK hits and have played tours alongside the likes of Moby, 808 State and The Prodigy. Their song Anthem is recognised as one of House’s greatest releases, earning acclaim from Mixmag who declared it “one of the 20 best piano house tracks ever.”
Ahead of her forthcoming album “Kung Fu Disco”, emerging indie-pop artist Cello returned earlier this month with her third single Like A Tiger. Part Robyn, part Bolan, with a hint of Madonna, driving funk guitars on a heavy disco beat lay the foundation for this song, which explores the idea of otherness.
“I wanted it to feel like breaking free,” shares Cello, “The song is about feeling like an alien, like you don’t belong, and maybe you’re not even from here.” But instead of being afraid of that feeling, “Like A Tiger” is about learning to love the strangeness. The universe is infinite and we are just specs of dust amongst the stars, but somehow, through it all, we are connected.
And of course, there’s the tiger. We all want to be like a tiger, don’t we?
