The best new music from the week of June 26th!
It’s New Music Friday! As it appears, the summer is in full swing, and the new music has encapsulated that feeling. This week’s edition of New Music Friday features standout releases from Future, Steve Lacy, KWN, and many more.
New Music Friday Picks
KWN – ‘and all pride aside’ (EP)
Based on the evidence, KWN is the hottest R&B newcomer and her latest EP confirms that. At face value, she’s at her best when she’s not afraid to be emotionally relatable. As it seems, we should expect great things from her based on her steady artistic evolution.
Future – “Radio” (Single)
Upon reflection, it’s time to have a serious dialogue about Future’s longevity. As matters stand, “Radio” shows he’s not going anywhere for a long time to come, and we are in store for a classic. Taking this discussion further, it’s insanely impressive how he’s breaking the barriers to be an older trap rapper.
Steve Lacy – “is it cool?” ft SZA (Single)
Taking everything into account, Steve Lacy has been giving us piece by piece of his new album and it seems ground-breaking. Finally, we get to hear him work with SZA, and their styles mesh perfectly as you’d imagine. More importantly, the lyricism is top notch work and really paints a picture of feeling guilty in a tragic breakup.
Tyler the Creator – “THAT GUY” (Single)
In today’s landscape, it’s commonly forgotten that Tyler has LA roots. With this in mind, it’s a blessing that he symbolically paid homage to his West Coast ties with “THAT GUY.” Given this context and that this beat comes from ‘GNX,’ one can hope that one day we get a track from him and Kendrick.
QUAVO & Pharrell – “Havin” (Single)
To some extent, Pharrell is still in his prime, and he is strategically maintaining his youth by working with younger artists. Following this approach, he and Quavo are have a new album on the way and the lead single is an instant banger. In the grand scheme of things, this could be the album to revitalize Quavo’s career.
Glorilla & Pooh Shiesty – “MANE” (Single)
Currently speaking, it’s safe to say Pooh Shiesty’s career is pretty much over after being arrested again. On the flip side, he made sure to go out with a bang in his newest track with Glorilla, making this one of the best Memphis collaborations ever. Beyond that, both of them brought the right energy to match the bass-thumping production.
Muni Long – “Richest” (Single)
Behind the scenes, Muni Long has been experience some serious health issues and it’s a blessing she’s back making music. As it seems, “Richest” is her first song back, and her presence was definitely missed. On a deeper level, this track proved it’s only a few people who can stoop to her level when it comes to pure songwriting.
Kash Alexus – ‘NOONK’ (Album)
Lastly, our final spot of New Music Friday is going to Atlanta-rising rapper, Kash Alexus. When necessary, she has proved that she can hang with the best of them, and that’s the certainly the energy she brought on ‘NOONK.’ From beginning to end, she goes on a lyrical massacre and it’s guaranteed to leave a lasting impression on you this summer.
We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
