Though these spaces are crucially designed for a new baby, it’s equally important to prioritize the needs of the new parents, who will be spending most of their time in this room for the next several months. Clever storage and soothing decor need to be part of the architecture of the room, not just an afterthought.
Nicole Brydon Bloom and Justin Theroux leaned into this duality when they began to design their baby boy’s nursery with the Crate & Kids Design Desk. ‘We wanted a space that was calm and grounded, but still fun and playful,’ explains the actress. The serene coastal color palette, cocooning furnishings, and subtly relaxing patterns of the space go above and beyond in creating a room that is stimulating for the baby but calming for the parents.

Like any interior design project, creating this baby’s room was a labor of love, but working with the Crate and Kids team was a huge help.
Nicole explains: ‘Our designer really listened to what we liked and how we wanted the room to work. She pulled all our ideas together in a way we never could’ve done on our own. They gave us a beautiful 3D rendering of the room so we could see how each piece would look in the space, which made everything feel so much more real and exciting before our little guy arrived.’

Recreate Nicole and Justin’s Nursery at Home

‘Now, Justin and I spend most of our time in his nursery, and it just works so well for everything from feeds and diaper changes to naps and story time,’ Nicole tells Homes & Gardens. ‘I live in the Seesaw Glider.’

Part of designing a nursery that you love to be in is about leaning into materials you use elsewhere throughout your house – for Nicole and Justin, this pointed them to dark wood. Nicole states: ‘The quality of every piece is superb. I especially love the dark wood of the crib and mirror – they bring warmth and depth to the room.’
These threads of continuity also help create cohesion throughout the room, making it feel sophisticated and carefully planned.

The repetition of stripes throughout this space is a clever gender neutral nursery idea that will grow with your child. Rather than feeling overly-kiddy, this look is appropriate across different ages, and is enjoyable to immerse yourself in as a part. An abundance of stripes makes the room feel subtly textured and fun, without overloading on busy prints.
