Released June 26 as part of New Music Friday, the song arrived with a simple, honest caption from Wilson on his official Facebook page: “Maybe bravery is being afraid and doing it anyway.”
That one sentence is the whole sermon.
“Do It Scared” doesn’t promise that the fear goes away. It doesn’t offer a shortcut past the hard thing or the terrifying leap. It offers something better – the permission to move forward anyway, trembling hands and all. The single was written by Wilson and produced, mixed, and mastered by his longtime collaborator Kyle Schonewill, with all instruments and vocals by Schonewill and Wilson – a close, personal project from start to finish.
“Do It Scared” is the latest chapter in what has been one of Wilson’s most open seasons as an artist. Earlier this year he released “How Loved You Are,” a song born from his own battle with depression, alongside a vulnerable message to fans about the darkest season of his life. That song, that honesty, and now this – they form a through-line: God meets us not when we finally have it together, but right in the middle of the afraid.
