Princess Diana would have turned 65 this year, and for both her sons, the date is one to celebrate. This is a very normal thing for kids who have lost their parents, but for someone as influential as Princess Diana was, it takes on a new dimension. How will Prince Harry and Prince William celebrate her?
Her oldest son, Prince William, is reportedly honoring his mother by intensifying his campaign to tackle homelessness, by marking the third anniversary of his Homewards initiative, which seeks to make homelessness “rare, brief and unrepeated.” The program operates across six locations in the UK and has invested $2.6million through its Homewards Fund.

The prince has credited childhood visits to homeless shelters with Diana for his commitment to the issue. “William’s latest work has always been deeply personal for him because it was his mother who first opened his eyes to homelessness as a child. Diana believed every person deserved dignity, compassion and practical support, and William sees Homewards as a continuation of those values,” a source told RadarOnline.
“Marking what would have been her 65th birthday this year by focusing on this cause feels like the most meaningful tribute he could make, and it feels like he is really channelling her spirit with this.”
Another source added, “Diana transformed public attitudes by treating people experiencing homelessness with warmth and humanity rather than judgment. William has inherited the belief that lasting change comes from listening, bringing people together, and challenging the systems that allow vulnerable people to fall through the cracks. William wants her legacy to be measured not just in memories, but in lives changed.”
This comes after his brother, Prince Harry, was accused of turning a visit to his mother’s grave with his children into a photo opportunity. Harry is expected to be in the UK for events related to the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. During that visit, he and his two children, Archie and Lilibet, are set to visit the grave at Althorp House in Northamptonshire, just days after what would have been her 65th birthday.
The estate is run by Diana’s brother Charles Spencer. There is no confirmation yet of the visit, but Althorp House will reportedly be closed for two days during the time Harry is in the UK, which has led to speculation.
“Closing Althorp during its limited public opening season is something that very rarely happens, so it has inevitably attracted attention,” a source told RadarOnline.
“Whenever arrangements like this are made, people begin speculating about the reasons behind them, particularly when they involve Harry and his family. There is a genuine feeling among those connected to the estate that this should remain an intensely private moment centered on Diana’s memory.”
“The hope is that any visit to her gravesite is carried out quietly and respectfully, without becoming overshadowed by publicity or turning into another media event,” the insider added.
“The feeling is that Diana’s gravesite should never become part of a wider publicity narrative, but remain a place for quiet reflection and respect.”
Harry recounted his and Markle’s last visit to his mother’s grave in his memoir, Spare. He wrote: “No visit to this place was ever easy, but this was a twenty-fifth anniversary. And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum.”
Harry added, “We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity. Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge, scanned the pond. When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone.”
“I asked, as we walked back to the boat, what she’d prayed for. Clarity, she said. And guidance,” Harry said in his memoir.
