This may be Ciara Miller’s first time hosting Love Island USA: Aftersun, but she’s no stranger to reality TV. In an exclusive interview with Cosmo, the Summer House and Traitors alum revealed why she feels uniquely qualified to cohost Aftersun alongside Tefi Pessoa, and it’s because she knows exactly how it feels to have your romantic choices scrutinized by an audience who doesn’t have the full story.
“I don’t sit here on a pedestal analyzing this show,” she says. “I sit here as someone who can relate to them and who sees them. The audience sometimes kicks you when you’re down, and they lift you when you’re up. It’s a roller coaster, and it’s confusing, especially to be in your 20s. I took this position and wanted this opportunity because I wanted to bring the human experience to reality TV.”
Ciara herself joined Summer House in season 5 when she was just 24 years old. “My brain developed on reality TV,” she continues. “You have to keep yourself grounded, but it’s not an easy experience. So I’m here to give a perspective into the nuances of reality TV and what filming is like, and what being in front of the camera is like, and the pressure that it involves. It’s a level of vulnerability that a lot of people don’t have the courage to even tap into.”
Because she knows just how tough it can be to experience the highs and lows of dating onscreen, she has empathy for the Islanders—and she wants Love Island fans to cut everyone in the Villa some slack, too.
At one point in the convo, Tefi says, “I’d like to remind the viewers at home that you’ve also dated medium-ugly people, and your friends accepted that,” to which Ciara replies with, “I have, too, and there’s proof.” (She didn’t name names here, but yes, I’m pretty sure that was fully some West Wilson shade.)
Never change, Ciara!!
