King Frederik keeps a low profile as sporting stars receive warm welcome at Wimbledon

King Frederik X of Denmark made a low-key appearance in the
Royal Box at Wimbledon on Sunday, quietly taking his place on
Centre Court as the world’s oldest tennis tournament prepared to
enter its second week.

The Danish monarch, a regular visitor to The Championships,
attended alongside a host of sporting greats but attracted far less
fanfare than many of those seated around him. While fellow guests
were greeted with warm applause and recognition from the Centre
Court crowd, King Frederik maintained a characteristically
understated presence.

The 58-year-old royal was seated alongside Debbie Jevans – the
chairwoman of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club
Board.

It is not the first time the King has been spotted at the All
England Club. He also attended Wimbledon last year, underlining his
long-standing interest in the tournament.

Joining the monarch in the prestigious Royal Box were some of
Britain’s most celebrated athletes, including marathon world record
holder Paula Radcliffe, Olympic champions Dame Kelly Holmes and
Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, and former triple jump world champion
Jonathan Edwards.

Also among the invited guests were England rugby international
Rosie Galligan and legendary England fast bowler Sir James
Anderson.

The distinguished audience watched seven-time Wimbledon champion
Novak Djokovic continue his pursuit of another men’s singles title
as he faced Russia’s Roman Safiullin in the fourth round.

Fans were also treated to one of the standout women’s matches of
the tournament as world number one Aryna Sabalenka took on Naomi
Osaka, before men’s top seed Jannik Sinner faced Japan’s Shintaro
Mochizuki later in the day.

King Frederik’s appearance comes during another busy summer of
royal engagements, with the Danish monarch balancing official
duties at home with a number of public appearances overseas.
