It’s Wimbledon time and the Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance on Day Four, on Thursday, attending Court 18 and sitting in the stands, with Tim Henman. She also handed out tickets and took card payments from clearly-delighted attendees. Catherine is patron of the All England Tennis Club and well-known for her love of tennis and it’s certain she will make multiple more appearances, most likely with George and Charlotte in tow, too – although the World Cup is probably claiming some of their attention! (See below).
Catherine spent some time with a group of children, who were part of the Shine Camera Club. This lovely organisation teaches photography to children from disadvantaged backgrounds and it turns out, they were invited to Wimbledon, by the princess, to experience the tournament.
“Shine Camera Club was honoured to be invited to Wimbledon by the Princess of Wales, where the children were given the unique opportunity to document one of the world’s most iconic sporting events through their own creative lens,” organisers posted on Instagram. “We are so grateful and delighted at the opportunity.” Catherine looked very chic in an electric blue linen trouser suit, by Gabriela Hearst.
Prince William is obviously all about football right now, promising to be at the World Cup final, if England make it. He joined the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, during which they revealed they met the Wales family when Taylor Swift was performing in Wembley. “One of the coolest moments ever was meeting you and the family,” said Travis, who shared he and his brother were very nervous. Jason said meeting Charlotte was the highlight for him and William quipped, “Congratulations, having four daughters – I don’t know how you do that.”
Taylor and Travis had their own ‘royal’ wedding on Friday, as they tied the knot in New York’s Madison Square Gardens, officiated by Adam Sandler. The singer wore Dior and the couple invited 1,000 guests including everyone from Hugh Grant, to Selena Gomez, and as promised… Graham Norton!
Congratulations to Lady Louise Windsor, who graduated from St Andrews University this week, with a degree in English Literature. (Kerry applauds, as a fellow English Lit graduate). Louise plans to take a gap year, working, travelling and volunteering. She is not a working royal and according to friends, is determined to be as “down to earth” as possible, so we look forward to seeing what her future holds. It was also lovely to see her receiving her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award this week, with 600 other young people at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. It was founded by Prince Philip and now, of course, her father Prince Edward gets to hand out the awards.
Charles and Camilla spent the week in Scotland, for the annual Royal Week, or Holyrood Week, celebrating Scottish culture. They looked to be having a blast, including hosting a giant garden party for 8,000 guests at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. This annual party is a tradition going back to George V and Queen Mary. During the visit, Camilla also invited J.K. Rowling to the Palace, and posted a photo of herself with the Harry Potter author. “With a shared passion for books and a deep commitment to children reading … Her Majesty and Ms Rowling discussed the importance of ensuring that young people have access to books and the vital part reading plays in opening doors for future generations,” a spokesperson wrote.
Prince Harry is coming to London tomorrow, but the latest news is, he won’t be bringing his family, after a request for extra security was denied. Some reports suggest Charles has offered accommodation in a royal residence, but it’s not known if Harry has accepted. It’s also thought there is a possibility Meghan, Archie and Lilibet may still come to the UK later in the week and join Harry at his Invictus launch in Birmingham on Friday. Charles has not seen the children since 2022. It’s a shame there’s so much drama continuing to surround the Sussexes – we hope they can all re-unite during this trip.
