Kate Middleton visited Evelina London Children’s Hospital for the first time since her cancer diagnosis
The Princess of Wales has supported the organization for almost a decade
The children’s hospital is set for a collaboration with two other hospitals, including the Royal Marsden, where Princess Kate was treated for cancer
Kate Middleton returned to a familiar kids’ hospital she has supported for almost a decade.
The Princess of Wales, 44, stepped out at Evelina London Children’s Hospital to see new developments in care for patients and support for families at the center. It was her first visit there since December 2023, about a month before she retreated from public duties amid her abdominal surgery and later her cancer diagnosis.
Princess Kate took a tour of some of the wards and heard how the hospital is undergoing crucial expansion to enable it to widen its help for children.

During her visit, she met the children’s cancer specialists and heard about a planned collaboration with experts from the Royal Marsden hospital, where Princess Kate underwent chemotherapy and other treatment for her cancer, and fellow London hospital St. George’s. The union with teams from Evelina London’s special teams and the two hospitals will create a cancer and blood and marrow transplant service called the Children’s Cancer Principal Treatment Centre, which will serve children in south London and southeast England with complex and rare medical conditions.
The Princess of Wales’ visit came as the hospital’s charitable arm said it is hoping to raise $133 million (£100 million) towards a new building that will go up next to the current one.

Kate, who has been patron of the children’s hospital since 2018, started her visit on July 6 in Edward ward, where she met children being treated on the new cardiac ward that brings together children’s heart, lung and intensive care specialists onto a single site. She was also taken to Galaxy ward, a new outpatients unit within the Children’s Day Treatment Centre which opened in May 2026 and provides face-to-face heart clinic appointments including diagnostic tests such as echocardiograms, assessments and ongoing care for children and young people with a cardiac condition.

During her visit, Princess Kate was also told about the plans for a new building, adjacent to the existing site and which is set to open in the early 2030s. That will provide essential additional scanners, beds and operating theaters alongside state-of-the-art technology.
Last weekend, the Princess of Wales took on the Three Peaks challenge — scaling Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales — in 24 hours in an effort to spotlight life beyond cancer and support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Princess Kate’s visit came as her brother-in-law Prince Harry, 41, was set to arrive in London ahead of a week of charitable visits.
