The matter of the guest list for the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding was a big deal. A lot of celebrities and powerful people attended, and everyone wanted to be invited. However, some big names weren’t, like Swift’s former friend Blake Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds. Who else wasn’t?
Well, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. And reportedly, it wasn’t for lack of trying. “Everyone wanted in,” one entertainment insider told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice. “Actors, musicians, billionaires, television stars—people were calling favors and working every connection they had. Getting invited became a status symbol.”

“Meghan wanted to be there,” a source added. “But Taylor and Travis weren’t inviting people for headlines. They invited the people they genuinely wanted to celebrate with.”
Reportedly, Swift maintains a good relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton. The two were reportedly invited, though they chose not to travel.
“Taylor has a real relationship with William,” another insider told Shuter. “She and Travis really enjoyed spending time with William and Kate. That’s where the connection is.”
You’d think over 1,000 guests would make it easier to get in. But apparently, it wasn’t so. Or at least, there was probably no reason to invite people Swift and Kelce had never actually met.
“This wasn’t just about who was most famous,” the insider adds. “It was about who Taylor and Travis actually wanted in the room.”
Ironically, Shuter also reported basically the opposite, in that many people at the wedding admitted they weren’t close to the bride and groom, to the point that guests were asking each other, “Why are we here?” That means not everyone invited was someone the couple knew well.
“The running joke all night was, ‘How do you know Taylor and Travis?’” one entertainment insider told Naughty But Nice. “The funny part was that a lot of people couldn’t answer. Most weren’t close friends. Many barely knew the couple at all.”
In fact, the wedding was even compared to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, where many people were invited despite having no personal connection to either. This isn’t that surprising for celebrity weddings, but it does throw the reports that Harry and Meghan wanted to be there and were denied into doubt.
“It had that Harry and Meghan feel,” another insider told Naughty But Nice. “There were real friends there, of course, but there were also lots of famous, important people who had no real connection to Taylor or Travis. The guest list became its own spectacle.”
And when there are so many people, you can’t possibly spend quality time with everyone. “Most people never even got to say hello to Taylor or Travis,” a source said “They certainly didn’t have a real conversation, and many don’t even have Taylor’s phone number or email to thank her afterward. That’s what happens when your wedding becomes a celebrity convention.”
