Frankie Grande suffered a concussion after being hit with a prop on stage during a performance of the musical Titaníque.
“Serving face, literally!” he joked in a social media post showing his injuries. “I launched the wheel into the air… and my nose caught it before my hands did!”
Grande originated the role of Victor Garber/Luigi in the musical when it began its off-Broadway run in 2018.
Frankie Grande won’t go down with this ship.
The prolific reality star and Broadway dynamo has been playing the dual role of ship captain Victor Garber and surreal ship builder/plumber Luigi (as in, Super Mario Bros. Luigi) in the musical Titaníque ever since it was an off-Broadway dream in 2018.
He originated the role, meaning he’s executed the simple stunt of throwing a pink ship wheel into the air and catching it dozens, if not hundreds of times. But accidents happen to us all, and on Thursday’s performance of Titaníque at the St. James Theatre, a big one happened to Grande.
“Serving face, literally!” Grande captioned a post shared to his Instagram on Sunday that featured three pictures: Grande clutching the hot pink wheel in question; a shirtless Grande mirror selfie featuring visible bruising on his nose; and a close-up shot of the carnage.
“In Thursday’s showstopper moment, I launched the wheel into the air… and my nose caught it before my hands did!” he explained. “Turns out, being gay doesn’t give me catching superpowers. So, I gave myself a little ‘ouchie’ (okay, maybe a concussion) Out of the show ‘til tomorrow. Catch you soon, my loves!”
Grande sustained the injury during the Celine Dion jukebox musical’s “I Drove All Night” number. As Victor Garber from the original Titanic, Grande steers the “Ship of Dreams,” tossing his vivid pink wheel into the air and catching it with aplomb — except on Thursday, when it collided with his face instead.

Titaníque is a musical retelling of the classic 1997 film from the perspective of Dion, who famously sang the film’s signature anthem, “My Heart Will Go On.”
The first iterations of the wacky production date back to 2017, but it took full form as an off-Broadway heavy-hitter in 2022, with Grande originating the roles of Victor Garber/Luigi. The performer and brother of pop star Ariana Grande was a shoo-in for the parts, having played them as far back as 2018.
The musical set sail for Broadway earlier this year, with Grande and cast members Jim Parsons and Deborah Cox in tow.
