Endemol Shine Brasil, part of Banijay Americas, today announces the first international deal for Upside Down, with Globo commissioning a local version of the feel-good entertainment series for Brazilian audiences.
Originally created by EndemolShine Nederland, part of Banijay Benelux, and produced by Endemol Shine Brasil, the competition format sees two teams of celebrity families competing inside a studio that is literally turned Upside Down. Brazil is the second country to produce the format, following its debut in the Netherlands.
Filmed at Banijay Studios, the largest independent audiovisual production complex in Latin America, using a specially designed set and immersive technology, the format puts contestants through a series of physical challenges, quiz games, and visual experiences in completely inverted environments. Blending humour, quick thinking, agility, and teamwork, the competition features unexpected challenges and situations that transform the traditional studio entertainment show into a fun, adrenaline-filled experience for both participants and viewers.
Nani Freitas, CEO of Endemol Shine Brasil says: “We are always looking for original ideas to bring audiences together through shared entertainment. Upside Down is a bold, highly visual format, and filming at our own studios guaranteed we created a distinctive production from the outset. We are proud to partner with Globo to bring this Banijay Entertainment format, created by our colleagues at Endemol Shine Nederland, to Brazilian viewers.”
Endemol Shine Brasil is behind many of the region’s leading formats, including Survivor, MasterChef, Love is Blind, The Wall and The Masked Singer. The company has also expanded its activity in the vertical storytelling space, delivering an 89-episode microdrama for ReelShort and a commission for two additional projects totalling 147 episodes. The production has already surpassed 100 million views on the platform, marking a milestone achievement for short-form drama in Brazil.
