Survivor alum Rick Devens is trading the islands of Fiji for the Big Brother house.
Entertainment Weekly reported on Tuesday, July 7, that Devens, 42, will be joining the season 28 cast. Devens may not be the sole Survivor alum competing for the $750,000 prize as another player, who has not been named, is expected to be on the cast, per the outlet.
Us Weekly has reached out to CBS for comment.
Devens first appeared on Survivor during the Edge of Extinction which aired in 2019. While Devens was the fourth person voted out of the season, he won his way back in the game. Devens went on to find multiple idols and win immunity challenges. Devens was the favorite to win the season but he ended up coming in fourth place, losing to eventual winner Chris Underwood in the fire-making challenge.

Following his season, Devens ultimately went on to be Jeff Probst‘s cohost on the “On Fire” podcast during Survivor 45.
Earlier this year, Devens returned to compete on Survivor in its milestone 50th season dubbed “In the Hands of Fans.” The beloved news anchor — who was an alternate before officially making the cast — was a fan favorite due to his island shenanigans and was responsible for flipping the Mr. Beast coin to ensure that the season’s cash-prize doubled to $2 million. (Devens ultimately lost the season as pal Aubry Bracco was crowned the Sole Survivor.)
News of Devens’ casting comes hours after CBS announced the cast for Big Brother 28. In the initial announcement, 14 new players were introduced. Amongst the new faces are an MMA fighter, a game show host, a drag queen who previously appeared on Drag Race and more.
Fans immediately raised their eyebrows as most Big Brother seasons include at least 16 houseguests. Rumors have swirled that season 28 could feature returning Big Brother players or reality TV veterans. CBS hinted on Tuesday that “additional surprise Houseguests will be revealed on air” during the Thursday, July 9, premiere.

“This new group of Houseguests is stepping into a summer where nothing is as it seems, where every twist rewrites the rules, and where time becomes the ultimate twist,” CBS teased in a press release.
Devens joining the Big Brother cast is not the first time a Survivor alum has participated in the series. Devens’ Survivor 50 costar Cirie Fields played in season 25 alongside her son Jared Fields. Several Big Brother players have also competed on Survivor including Big Brother 12 winner Hayden Moss and season 19 alum Caleb “Beast Mode Cowboy” Reynolds.
Big Brother 28 kicks off with a 90-minute premiere on CBS and Paramount+ Thursday, July 9, at 8 p.m. ET. The live feeds will open on Paramount+, PlutoTV and for a limited time on the show’s official YouTube channel Friday, July 10, at 9 p.m. ET.
