A new space for electronic music, Origin Los Angeles, is set to open in the Downtown L.A. Arts District in the coming months.
An extension of the industrial event venue located at 613 Imperial Street, a space frequently used by Insomniac Events and other promoters, Origin will be an indoor/outdoor space designed to host everything from intimate club nights to art, cultural and community events. A press release on the opening notes that, “Between the main music room and the grand outdoor space, Origin will offer a variety of entertainment scenarios catering specifically to electronic music.”
The statement continues that Fridays at Origin will focus on “live top-tier and indie electronic bookings and more forward-thinking programming, while Saturdays will alternate between daytime outdoor experiences and late-night house and techno programming.” The space will open in late summer or early fall of this year, with lineups forthcoming.
Origin Los Angeles is a project from Roni Mehrabian and Cyril Bitar, who are behind L.A. nightlife brands SBCLTR and Minimal Effort and have created events including Labryinto, Brunch Electronik, The Maze, Float and Resolutions. The Maze returns for its third year this Halloween, Oct. 31, for an Arts District party featuring sets by The Blaze, Kavinsky and Claude VonStroke. The multi-stage event will feature outdoor performances beneath the downtown skyline along with indoor performances.
Origin was designed by Marc Dizon, who’s had a hand in venues including New York’s Brooklyn Mirage and Output, Hakkasan in Las Vegas and Sound in L.A. The venue will boast a custom analog KV2 Audio system designed and tuned for Origin. Branding for the space will be done by Super Evil Genius Group.
