Ableton has introduced Push 3 — the latest iteration of its music-making system and controller. This product features tactile MPE-enabled pads, knobs, and parameter controls that can be used alongside a spoken feedback function.
Ableton’s Push 3 enables users to browse sounds, launch clips, create music, and record without needing to look at a screen. This controller is designed as an expressive instrument, where pitch, slide, and pressure are captured per pad. Thus, nuanced performances are enabled with finger movements across the grid, and touch-sensitive step editing brings melodies, harmonies, and rhythms to life in a way that feels intuitive and immediate. Push 3 also boasts stem separation, which allows users to pull apart vocals, drums, bass, and other elements from audio files. It also delivers the ability to sample directly from a turntable, warp, slice, and reshape sounds on the pads.
For musicians who prefer a hands-on, immersive approach to production, the deep integration with Ableton Live — from clip launching and step sequencing to real-time playing and direct access to track and device controls — provides a seamless workflow that bridges the gap between software and hardware. This, in turn, makes for a more fluid and creative composition process.
