Jennifer Garner goes way back with her latest onscreen beau.
The 13 Going on 30 star shares a TV romance with Timothy Olyphant on her new show The Five Star Weekend, and it’s far from the first time that she’s acted alongside the Justified star.
“He and I first worked together on an indie in New York City in the ’90s,” Garner told PEOPLE in reference to the 1997 movie 1999.
Garner went on to costar with Olyphant in the 2007 romantic comedy Catch and Release, which the actress recently discovered “has this whole life that I didn’t know it had, which has been very gratifying to learn.”

The actress later starred alongside Olyphant in Garry Marshall’s 2016 comedy Mother’s Day, which also featured Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts, and Jason Sudeikis. Reteaming with the Alien: Earth star “was great” for the actress thanks to the “trust and history” that the two performers share.
“How fun to go in and just hit the ground running, knowing each other like we do,” Garner said. “With Tim, there was that trust there…I love his wife. I’ve known her forever.”
Garner recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about relishing the opportunity to work with so many prominent actresses on The Five Star Weekend, including Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Chan, and D’Arcy Carden.
“Women are typically siloed off: You play you, and then maybe you have a best friend or a boss or an assistant, but it’s rarely about a sisterhood,” she said. “I was nervous to meet all of them, because I’m a fan of all their work.”
Garner went on to explain how each of her costars surprised her. “Chloë is so cool-girl New York City and I’m so suburban mom, but actually, she’s pretty suburban [too],” the actress said of Sevigny. “I was surprised by how maternal she is. D’Arcy is so, so emotional, such a connector. She’s the person who is always making sure that we have taken a picture.”

The Alias star didn’t realize that Chan has a law degree from the University of Oxford. “Gemma, I was surprised that she’s a lawyer,” she said. “I was also surprised when we had our dance scene. Gemma could really get down.”

Of Hall, Garner shared, “Regina has a real business mindset, and she’s a real entrepreneur. And she’s so smart. Regina’s the whole package. All of us wanted time with Regina.”
All eight episodes of The Five Star Weekend are now streaming on Peacock.
