Is Spider-Man about to go toe-to-toe with a Black Widow?
Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige seemingly confirmed that a New Avenger will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. During an appearance at BiliBili World in Shanghai on Saturday, Feige teased an upcoming appearance from Florence Pugh‘s Yelena in a pair of upcoming Marvel movies.
“If you’re a fan of Yelena, wait until Avengers: Doomsday. Yelena plays a big part in that,” Feige said of the forthcoming crossover movie, which hits theaters in December. “But if you don’t want to wait until then, you might see Yelena a little bit sooner in the movies,” he added.

It’s not too difficult to read between the lines of Feige’s comments, as there’s only one Marvel Cinematic Universe movie slated to release between now and Doomsday: Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which swings into theaters at the end of July.
The adoptive sister of Scarlett Johansson‘s Natasha Romanoff, Yelena first appeared in 2021’s Black Widow. She subsequently appeared in three episodes of Hawkeye later that year, and joined forces with several other misfit heroes in 2025’s Thunderbolts. She’s set to appear alongside that team — which was renamed the New Avengers at the conclusion of their film — in Doomsday, which will also feature the casts of Fox’s X-Men movies, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and several key actors from Avengers: Endgame.

One of those stars is Robert Downey Jr., who will portray the villainous Victor Von Doom after previously anchoring the MCU as Tony Stark/Iron Man. During his appearance at BiliBili World, Feige shared what Downey said when he committed to playing the supervillain.
“His exact words were: ‘I played the best hero. I can play the best villain,'” Feige recalled.
Before Doomsday, Marvel fans will get a smaller-scale crossover with Brand New Day. In addition to Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man, the film will also feature Mark Ruffalo‘s Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle/Punisher, as well as Spidey’s returning supporting cast members like Zendaya‘s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned. The movie will also feature previously unseen characters portrayed by Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, Eman Esfandi, and Marvin Jones III.
Though plot details for Brand New Day are scarce, Entertainment Weekly got a taste of the film’s premise and stakes via annotated script pages from the filmmakers, which tease that a “completely alone” Peter will begin the film with “a small, sharp headache,” which serves as “our first inkling that living completely in the shadows is taking its toll on Peter — something is changing, and maybe not for the better…”
