The Love Island USA season 8 finale airs Sunday, July 12, at 9 p.m. ET
Corbin Mims is relieved to no longer be under Peacock’s watchful eye.
The 22-year-old from Miami was dumped from the Fiji villa on the July 3 episode of Love Island USA with partner Parmida Keshani, whom he coupled up with during Casa Amor. He tells PEOPLE it’s “a relief to come out of the villa” as he unpacks his eventful turn on the reality series.
He earned a nickname both inside the villa and from fans inspired by his monotone facial expressions, CorbinGPT, which he says “started from when I walked in as a bombshell” on day 4.
“They’re like, ‘Dude, you walked in like you’re AI. You were walking in slow motion, damn near. You wasn’t doing no facial expressions, dog. And you looked f—ing good from head to toe like you got picked from Mount Olympus and dropped here. You got created in the lab and just dropped in front of us.’ So they’re like, ‘Dog, you’re AI.’ ”

His “sleeping patterns” didn’t help. “I don’t move at night and I also sleep facing up,” he says. When the boys saw that, they started to joke that he was “recharging” at night.
“I think it’s funny. At the end of the day, I’m being me,” he says.
Now that he has his phone, he says he “can’t help but just laugh” at the memes about him, CorbinGPT and all.
“It’s really funny. Literally, I don’t know how to describe it. Because in my head, when I’m in the villa, I’m not … I forget that we’re being recorded, because now this is our life. So I’m in there, I’m just being completely myself. And sometimes I just be saying stupid s— sometimes.”
Another thing that fans clung onto from Corbin’s time in the villa was that he and Parmida were the only couple to call out Melanie and Sincere when they were asked to vote for the least compatible couples.
“I’m glad we voted for them,” he says of his decision, as he felt the challenge was “my time to tell Sincere how I feel, and I’m pretty sure I was speaking for a lot of the guys there that didn’t want to speak.”
“If movie night never happened, I would’ve never talked. I would’ve never [known] anything. So the fact that I knew about that information, I was like, nah, I got to address this s— right here,” Corbin says.

“We chatted after, the next day, and I was like, ‘Yo, I’m here to be your bro, and I’m a real ass friend to you. I’m not going to sugarcoat s—, I’m not going to tell you what you want to hear. I’m going to be straight up, and if you don’t like it, you don’t like it. But at least you know how to move, and you know how I feel.’ ”
“He heard that, and he understood that,” he says of Sincere.

Another thing Corbin wants to clear up about his time in the villa is the depth of his connection with Parmida — and he wants to add context about their interactions before the show.
In Casa Amor, they discussed the fact that they’d followed each other on Instagram and had briefly DM’ed. Corbin says that happened just days before he entered the villa as a bombshell.
“I was in Fiji when it happened,” he says. “It was literally before I got everything taken away from me. So there was nothing before that. … I know someone [online] said I was talking to her for a year or something. That was not the case.”

He emphasizes that they “had a lot of deep conversations” during their time in the villa, though fans mostly saw the physical side of their relationship.
“It sucks that it got portrayed that way,” he says. “We had a lot of late-night conversations. And the fact that it got portrayed like I’d ask her one question, and then I would just kiss her or some s— like that, like we didn’t really have [conversations]? I hate that it was portrayed that way.”
The season 8 finale of Love Island USA drops Sunday, July 12, at 9 p.m. ET on Peacock.
